Roger Goodell Signs New Contract to Remain NFL Commissioner

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones implied that Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract extension with the NFL would not get done prior t0 the NFL’s ownership meetings on December 13th. Jerry Jones missed the actual date, by a week. According to multiple reports, the NFL Compensation Committee completed and Roger Goodell signed, an extension that will keep him as NFL commissioner. The deal was first reported by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. The contract details of Goodell’s deal are rather incredible. According to a report from Charles Gasparino of Fox Business, “The contract extension carries a five-year term that will keep Goodell in place as commissioner through 2024. Goodell will earn a guaranteed annual salary of $3.5 million, though he could earn as much as $50 million through incentives.” Meaning, despite the NFL experiencing unprecedented declines in television ratings and in-game attendance, the NFL has just signed Roger Goodell to a deal that could be worth up to $200 million. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones had tried for months to delay, devalue, or derail Goodell’s contract extension. Going so far as to enlist the support of Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter, who publicly criticized Goodell’s leadership over the commissioner’s response to the anthem protests. Those efforts, in addition to Jones’ behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign, appear to have been ineffective.

Indeed…  And the decline of the NFL continues..  Just awful..

Nolte: Roger Goodell Fell for Mainstream Media’s Fake Reality and Destroyed NFL (Possibly Forever)

When the first half of the 21st century is way back enough for a history to be written unencumbered by agenda, President Barack Obama will be remembered as the worst thing that ever happened to the Democrat Party. And to the NFL.* If you think that is a stretch, hear me out… Thanks to George W. Bush’s terrible second term, two unbelievably awful Republican opponents in John McCain and Mitt Romney, not to mention the charisma and impressive political skills as the most leftwing senator in the country, Barry O won two national elections and did so by impressive margins. The problem is that America’s so-called Smart People misread these victories. And by “Smart People,” I am, of course, sarcastically referring to Democrats, the imbecilic Republican establishment, and the corrupt national media — all of whom deluded themselves into believing that Obama’s victory meant that the country had not just moved to the left, but to the far left. Buoyed by this mistaken belief, not only did the Democrat Party move to the far-left (Warren, Bernie, Hillary 7.0, etc), so did the media. Over Obama’s eight years, among others, the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC believed they were capturing a zeitgeist by hiring tons of rabid leftwing propagandists, a freak show that includes Ana Navarro, Philip Bump, Jake Tapper, Chris Cillizza, Jemele Harris, Chris Cuomo, Al Sharpton, Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid… ESPN was so sure of this, it went from a rock n’ roll sports network to MSESPN. What no one wanted to acknowledge, though, is that almost immediately after Obama’s 2009 inauguration, voters began a major course correction. In February 2010, Republican Scott Brown’s U.S. Senate victory (to replace Ted Kennedy) in, of all places, Massachusetts, combined with the historic wipeout of Democrats just nine months later in the 2010 midterms– this should have told the so-called Smart People that Obama was an anomaly, not a trend. But because the so-called Smart People chose not to recognize this, chose to keep the velvet bubble in place, over the next eight years, the Democrat Party has been nearly wiped out at every level, local and national. Nevertheless, our sports and political media, which are now infested with hardcore, Obama-era leftists, have consciously refused to recognize reality. Even as Democrats lose their strongholds in New England, even as Republicans win every special election, the media not only refuse to recognize the fact that America is a right-of-center country, they are intentionally fabricating a reality that says the exact opposite. The reason for this goes beyond personal partisan denial. It is a propaganda tactic. Basically, the media believe that the only way to push America to the far left is to manufacture a reality (backed by fraudulent polling) that says we are already there and that anyone who is not on the Progressive Express is in the minority. Although the everyday American voters who have decimated the Democrat Party have, thankfully, not fallen for it, when you are talking about billions and billions of corporate dollars being spent on this propaganda, it is going to have an effect, and in many ways has. For example, despite total control over the federal government, the imbecilic Republican establishment have fallen for it, and, as a result, have done absolutely nothing to keep long-held promises or to advance Trump’s agenda. As a consequence, their own base now despises them and a full-blown insurgency is already claiming scalps. Which brings me to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who also fell for the propaganda and who is also dealing with a five-alarm disaster of his own making. In Goodell’s provincial world, in his deluded thinking, shaped by ESPN and CNN, he was fooled into believing America is enamored with identity politics and social justice. And so, although every other form of personal expression is banned by the NFL, Goodell actually believed it was a good idea to give the okay for spoiled millionaires to publicly express their hatred and contempt for America. Completely out of touch with the common man and fan, Goodell fell for the media’s fake reality and did irreparable damage to the NFL. My wife is a perfect example. Since childhood, thanks to a tradition handed down by her father, the Green Bay Packers has been one of the great passions of her life — until this season. And this is what should really terrify Goodell… My wife’s lost passion is not a political statement or protest. Her passion died a natural death as she watched something she once loved betray her country. She is not angry. She just stopped caring. How does the NFL recover from that, from indifference, from those who have moved on? Now that it is almost certainly too late, now that the Morning Joe scales have fallen from Goodell’s eyes, now that the ratings and empty stadiums and devastating polls make it impossible for even a somewhat powerful media to keep Goodell’s bubble afloat, the man charged with protecting this institution has finally figured out that it might not be a good idea to open every NFL game with your players giving the American flag the finger. What a jackass, what a pathetic and delusional fool, a weakling, who allowed the media’s phony reality to drag him into deep water from which he can no longer escape. The saddest thing, though, is that no one — not Goodell, not the Republican establishment, will acknowledge their own demise as a cautionary tale, as a valuable lesson in never again falling for propaganda. Rather than come to terms with the reality of an America that looks like this, they would prefer to see it all burn down. *I originally added “to America” to this sentence but then realized that President Trump is doing such a stellar job erasing Barry’s failed legacy that this is no longer true.

John Nolte really just hit the nail on the head here.  Excellent!

President Trump Slams Commish Goodell for ‘Justifying’ the NFL’s ‘Disrespect’ for Our Country

President Donald Trump sharply criticized National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell for “justifying” the “disrespect” that NFL players show to the United States as a result of the now ubiquitous protests held during the playing of the national anthem. On Saturday evening, Trump sent out a tweet urging the commissioner to “tell them to stand!” “Roger Goodell of NFL just put out a statement trying to justify the total disrespect certain players show to our country,” Trump tweeted on September 23. “Tell them to stand!” he added. Trump’s early evening tweet came several hours after a statement by the NFL chief who called the president “divisive” and said he failed to “understand the overwhelming force for good” the NFL offers the country. The NFL commish also touted his league as fostering “unity” despite the disunity that the protests he has allowed has caused the nation. On Saturday morning, Goodell said, “The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.” Goodell’s statement came the morning after Trump’s broadside against the NFL delivered during a Friday evening rally in Huntsville, Alabama, for Republican Senate candidate Luther Strange. During the September 22 rally, Trump called players who protest during the playing of the national anthem “sons of b**ches” and said he hoped NFL owners would “fire” them.

Opinion: In Kaepernick and Goodell, Trump Shows He Knows How to Pick His Enemies

Colin Kaepernick and Roger Goodell hate Donald Trump. Whose side are you on? One of the differences between political and gridiron strategy involves picking one’s opponents. In the latter, the schedule dictates; in the former, guile does. The president manipulated some of the most hated people in America to hate him. He chose his enemies wisely. They unwisely fell into his trap. Maybe next time, Trump should call out Skelator, Cobra Commander, or Moriarty. Alas, one judges those villains not dumb enough to get all of their sinister friends to publicly denounce their denouncer the way Kaepernick and Goodell did. Americans hate Colin Kaepernick because he hates America. He sports Fidel Castro t-shirts, wears socks depicting policemen as pigs, and refuses to rise for a flag so many have fallen to defend. They dislike Roger Goodell because he not only plays games, but he rigs them (with Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, and Ezekiel Elliot). When the league’s fans demand action, he goes into Hamlet mode—as in the Ray Rice case when he repeatedly changed the nature of the punishment from a two-game to a six-game to an indefinite suspension. Fans marvel that the man presiding over the decline of football as the marquee American sport gets a new contract rather than fired. So, when it’s Trump vs. Kaepernick, the commander-in-chief beats the quarterback. And when it’s the son of the New York real-estate developer vs. the son of the New York senator, the Donald beats the Dreadful. He wins even when he says “son of a b—-” in the Bible Belt. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now. He is fired,’” the president said of national anthem kneelers in Alabama Friday night, adding for emphasis, “‘He’s fired.’” Some people cannot believe Trump said that. More people cannot believe Colin Kaepernick does that or that Roger Goodelll stands for that. The patriots lack the megaphone of the Trump haters, so an impression forms that the president said something outrageous, as though employers dependent upon the public’s business appear eager to hire people who hate the country their customers love. Would you shop at a supermarket where the checkout girl burned a flag before bagging your groceries? “Divisive comments like this demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities,” Roger Goodell maintained in the wake of the president’s fiery comments. If you want to see “divisive” and a “lack of respect,” turn on an NFL game and watch men making millions refuse to stand up for two minutes during the “Star Spangled Banner.” Or, maybe, you opt not to do this. Increasingly, that ranks as the popular choice. After bleeding viewers last season, Monday Night Football shows a five-percent decline this season, Sunday Night Football registers a seven-percent dip, and regular Sunday afternoon games post double-digit drops. Look at the empty seats in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Fans repeatedly tell pollsters that on-field protests rank as the top reason why their eyes go elsewhere on Sunday. But Roger Goodell pretends this reality away and the pampered, protesting players realize that by the time they finally kill the goose, younger, healthier men take their place in line for the golden eggs. Watch their Nielsen ratings plummet. Watch his Gallup numbers rise.

Indeed..  That spot-on op/ed was written by Daniel J. Flynn..    🙂

NFL players ask Roger Goodell for support in racial equality campaign

Current and former NFL players campaigning for racial equality and criminal justice reform wrote a lengthy memo to league commissioner Roger Goodell officially seeking overt league support in their effort, including an endorsement for an activism awareness month, Yahoo Sports has learned. The 10-page memo, obtained by Yahoo Sports, was sent to Goodell and executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent in August, requesting wide-ranging involvement in their movement from the NFL. The memo seeks an investment of time and education, political involvement, finances and other commitments from the league. It also sought to have the NFL endorse the month of November as an activism awareness month, similar to the periods of league calendar dedicated to breast cancer awareness and military recognition. It was endorsed by four players: Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, former Buffalo Bills wideout Anquan Boldin and Eagles wideout Torrey Smith. A league spokesperson declined to comment on the memo or Goodell’s communication with specific NFL players. The four players who co-authored the letter either didn’t return requests for comment or declined to speak about it, citing an agreement to keep direct communications with Goodell private.

And THIS is what is wrong with the NFL, and why it’s ratings are tanking right now; this crap.  The right thing for Roger to do is to crumple up that memo, and toss it in the trash, and then put out a memo of his own which says the NFL is about FOOTBALL; NOT political correctness and political agenda activism.  Ironically, the percentage of black players in the NFL in 2014 was 68%; a number that is now over 80%.  That same year white players made up about 28%; a number that has since decreased.  So, maybe these players have a point.  There isn’t exactly “equality” of demographics in the NFL.  Maybe there aren’t enough white players in the NFL!  Then, once that’s been addressed, how about we take a good hard look at the NBA while we’re at it, lol.  Don’t look for anyone in ANY news media dare to cross that politically incorrect line…   But, hey..  Here at The Daily Buzz, we don’t shy away, and call out hypocrisy like this whenever it’s pushed in our face by these obnoxious, self-righteous, entitlement-minded, professional athletes who make MILLIONS, and then whine how they’re all “oppressed.”  Can I PLEASE be that “oppressed?!?”  Like we’ve been saying, THIS is why the ratings for the NFL are in the toilet.  People are sick of this crap. Unreal..

NFL Fines Marshawn Lynch for Crotch Grab

Santa Claus giveth. Roger Goodell taketh away.

And good for Roger!…something I don’t say often, trust me.  Marshawn Lynch is an obnoxious, selfish, arrogant, elitist tool.  The Seahawks should fire that sack of crap, regardless of his stats.  If I were his coach, I’d fire him in a New York minute.  He should be so grateful he gets paid millions and millions to play a sport, for crying out loud.   Instead, he thinks he’s all that..and looks down on others, including the media who are just doing THEIR job when they do post-game interviews (part of his contract).  This latest stunt shows he doesn’t get it, and doesn’t care.  What a jerk..
