Antifa: The truth behind the mask

As protests for the killing of George Floyd and the unfair treatment of African Americans by the hands of police officers took place across the nation, a lot of attention has turned to Antifa, an anti-fascist group that has remerged. Just last week President Trump called the group a terrorist organization on Twitter saying, “The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.” During a press conference at the White House, the president went on to say, “Those who threaten innocent life and property will be arrested, detained, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This includes Antifa and others who are leading instigators of this violence.” Attorney General William Barr echoed Trump’s comments on Antifa and said the Department of Justice will treat violence from individuals associated with Antifa as domestic terrorism. “Such senseless acts of anarchy are not exercises of First Amendment rights. They are crimes designed to terrify fellow citizens and intimidate communities. There are groups that exploit the opportunity to engage in such crimes as looting. We have evidence that Antifa and other similar extremist groups have been involved in instigating and participating in the violent activity,” Barr said in a press conference. In December of 2019, Fox News spoke to Andy Ngo, a conservative journalist who was assaulted by Antifa multiple times, including on June 29, 2018, when members of the group punched him in the head and pelted him with milkshakes and other objects. “The city has had by this point, years of protests [that] turned into riots and they still have not learned from any of the mistakes of the past,” Ngo told Fox News. “They have not evolved and changed the policing tactics. Over and over its always what is now a mantra for them that they will not go in to intervene because it could incite the mob.” Fox News also spoke to Gabriel Nadales on Oct. 15, 2019. Nadales is a former Anfita member who told us there are a lot of different groups within Antifa itself. “You’ll find a lot of the members may do it for animal rights or for anti-capitalism, pro socialism. Personally, when I was in Antifa, a lot of the activism I did was for animal rights,” said Nadales. “But once they come together in the Black Bloc and behind the black mask, they kind of forget all that. They go for that common goal of silencing whatever their opposition at the moment is and oftentimes, we’ve seen them silence people simply for political disagreements.”

Trey Gowdy: ‘Defunding the police is the single dumbest idea I’ve ever heard’

Former House Oversight Committee chairman Trey Gowdy told “Sunday Morning Futures” that “defunding the police is the single dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.” “Who is going to process crime scenes, arrest bad people?” Gowdy, a former South Carolina Congessman, asked during an exclusive interview with host Maria Bartiromo. “Who is going to enforce any law, child sex abuse, homicide? Who is going to do it if it’s not the police?” Gowdy made the comments after a recent push to weaken law enforcement in the wake of the death of George Floyd in police custody. Days after Floyd, who is black, died after a white officer knelt on his neck, Black Lives Matter announced a “call for a national defunding of police,” and notable Democratic voices as well as celebrities have echoed the sentiment. Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, who appeared with Gowdy on “Sunday Morning Futures,” agreed, saying defunding police is “a ridiculous idea.” “It is not an idea whose time has come. It should never come,” Scott said. “The nation requires law and order. We need order in our streets and the easiest way to have that is to have a strong presence of character-driven law enforcement officers.” Scott then brought up the fact that he recently reintroduced the Walter Scott Notification Act, which requires states to report deadly shootings by law enforcement officers. Walter Scott was a black motorist who died in 2015 after running from a white police officer during a traffic stop and then struggling with the officer who ran after him. The officer testified that Scott grabbed his Taser and he then shot him, firing “until the threat was stopped,” which is what he said he was trained to do. “One of the reasons why I proposed … [the] Walter Scott Notification Act [was] to get law enforcement agencies to report the data on the use of force that leads to death,” Sen. Scott explained on Sunday. “Without that actual information in an aggregate value, we don’t really know what’s going on.” He went on to note that “fewer than 45 percent of agencies actually report their information to the FBI so I think it would help all of us to get a clear picture of what’s going on within the law enforcement community.” “Within communities of color, the issues with law enforcement are much broader than who shoots whom,” Gowdy said. “I mean that’s incredibly important, but it’s arrest rates, it’s sentencing disparities, it’s access to bond, it’s access to diversion programs.” The calls to defund police departments come as uniformed law enforcement officers across the nation suffered injuries during George Floyd protests that turned violent in some cities, with officers being pelted with bricks and bottles. A police officer in Las Vegas was shot in the head, while police in New York and New Jersey were injured by bricks and rocks. In Los Angeles, one officer suffered a fractured skull and officers in other cities suffered injuries in hit-and-run incidents.

For those who are unaware, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) happens to be black.  Given what’s going on, it’s worth noting.  Hopefully we’ll get to a point where such things are irrelevant.  Thanks to both Sen. Scott, and former Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) from the great state of South Carolina for their wise input.  Trey is 100% spot on when he says that defunding the police “is the single dumbest idea” either of us has ever heard.  It’s the latest crazy notion put forth by the extreme liberal left, and championed by America haters like AOC and her ilk.  Giving in to this mob mentality would be a disaster for any community that would endorse such lunacy.  Imagine someone is breaking into your home, or you’re having a domestic violence issue, and so you rightfully call 911…only to hear a recording that says, “sorry.  We’ve been defunded.”  Yeah…it’s THAT crazy.

Felon Charged with Murdering Retired Police Captain David Dorn in Riots

A convicted felon has been charged with murdering St. Louis, Missouri, 77-year-old retired police captain David Dorn during riots in the city last week. The St. Louis Police Department announced Sunday that 24-year-old convicted felon Stephan Cannon has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, armed criminal action, and unlawfully possessing a firearm after he allegedly murdered Dorn. On June 2, according to police, Dorn was guarding Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry in St. Louis while riots, fires, and looting broke out. Surveillance footage, police said, shows Dorn arriving at the pawn shop, which had already been looted by Cannon and other men. That is when Cannon can allegedly be seen on the footage approaching the corner of the pawn shop with a gun, and it is at this time that Dorn was shot, killed, and left on the sidewalk bleeding. While searching Cannon’s residence, St. Louis police officers recovered a TV that had been looted from the pawn shop that night. Cannon is currently being held without bail. Dorn had served nearly 40 years with the St. Louis Police Department before retiring in 2007. Dorn also served as police chief in the small town of Moline Acres, Missouri.

This is a story we’ve been keeping an eye on the last couple of days.  And, we’re happy to report this piece of garbage is finally in jail and being held without bail, as well he should.  Hopefully the others who were accomplices and also looted, and then stood by and did nothing but videotape “Cap” bleeding out for FaceBook will be rounded up as well, and charged.  Of course, we’ll continue to keep an eye on this story.  For more, click on the text above.

St. Louis police release surveillance video of 7 ‘persons of interest’ in death of retired officer David Dorn

Surveillance footage capturing a group of men breaking into a pawn shop around the same time of the killing of a retired police captain attempting to prevent looting was released by St. Louis authorities Friday. The video shows seven “persons of interest” running into Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry on Tuesday during a night of widespread looting and rioting following a mostly peaceful protest over the death of George Floyd. The men all have their faces covered — six with masks and one with another covering. One man takes off his mask and puts his left hand to his mouth. Authorities believe he may have cut himself. At least two of the men were armed with handguns. The video runs from 2:13 a.m. to 2:17 a.m. David Dorn, 77, was found dead from a gunshot to the torso around 2:30 a.m. Prior to working security at the pawn shop, he served as a police captain with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and a police chief in nearby Moline Acres. He retired in 2014 after more than 40 years in law enforcement. “They called him ‘Cap.’ That was the Cap. That was the Cap, everybody knows that was him,” Dorn’s son, Brian Powell, told Fox2Now, adding that “police work ran through his veins.” Investigators said Dorn was killed responding to a burglar alarm at the shop. He often checked on the store, which is owned by a friend. “David Dorn was exercising law enforcement training that he learned here,” St Louis Police Chief John Hayden said. His death occurred during a night in the city that saw looting and property damage following protests over the May 25 death of Floyd, a black man who died while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. Dorn was found on a sidewalk in front of the shop. A Facebook Live video captured some of his last moments. Powell said if Dorn was still alive, he would have shown empathy toward his attacker. “My dad, he is a forgiving soul. So he would have forgiven that person and try to talk to them because he was real big on trying to talk to youth and mentoring young people as well,” he said. “He was trying to get them on the straight and narrow and everything.” President Trump weighed in on Dorn’s death earlier this week, saying he was “viciously shot and killed by despicable looters” and that “we honor our police officers, perhaps more than ever before.” Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact St. Louis homicide detectives. A $45,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.

Or you can reach the St. Louis PD Homicide Div directly by calling:  (314) 444-5371.  For more info, and/or to see the video of these “persons of interest,” click on the text above.  These are pieces of garbage; total scum. If you have any info that’ll lead to an arrest of these maggots, you could get up to $45K.  Normally we don’t do the crime beat thing here at The Daily Buzz.  But, I’m originally from St. Louis, and this one hits close to home.  So, we’ll make an exception here. I’m disgusted by this and we need to find these animals and arrest them.  We can’t have thugs and bullies like this on the street.  “Cap” was the father of 5 and the grandfather of 10.  He was a good man who served his community and was loved.  What happened to him cannot stand.  We’ll, of course, keep an eye on this developing story.

Utah National Guard confirms they were kicked out of DC hotel, mayor claims budget issue

The Utah National Guard confirmed Friday that 200 service members are being kicked out of hotels in the nation’s capital as D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser clashes with President Trump over the handling of the George Floyd protests in the city. Bowser, who wants all non-D.C. troops out of the city, blamed the National Guard relocation on a budget issue and said the city will not pay for the accommodations — amid days of protests over racial injustice, some of which have been violent. “Last night, we were informed that our service members would be relocated from their hotel rooms,” the Utah National Guard said in a statement Friday. Maj. Jaime Thomas told Fox News they identified another hotel and will relocate Friday. “It has been heartbreaking for our Utah National Guard service members to witness the pain, suffering, and frustration in our communities across the nation,” the National Guard added. “The Utah National Guard has been supporting civil authorities with our top priority of protecting lives as well as preserving property and critical infrastructure in our nation’s capital.” The District of Columbia’s National Guard said it is working to resolve the matter after hundreds of soldiers had been staying at a Marriott hotel near downtown Washington since being activated on Monday. On Friday, Bowser said the removals were over a budget issue, saying D.C. residents would not cover the hotel bills. “This is overbilling,” she said. Pressed on the matter, the mayor said they did not “evict anybody from a private hotel” but said the city will not pay for National Guard housing. She said they have no desire to see soldiers on the street but said the armory or the home state of the National Guard should pay for their arrangements. “If they are going to use rooms we reserved, they have to pay for them,” she said. “At no time did we intend or would we would be able to effect evicting any guardsman from any hotel,” Bowser added. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah – who broke the news Thursday about the removals “Fox News @ Night” – has slammed Bowser as an “ungrateful mayor” over the situation. Bowser said Friday she hasn’t had a chance to talk to Lee. In a new statement Friday afternoon, Lee said: “Evicting Utah National Guard personnel from their hotels after a late-night shift risking their lives to protect Washington is a shameful, petty, discrediting decision by Mayor Bowser.” Lee, who has worked in all three branches of the federal government, said on Fox News he’s “never seen a situation like this.” “I find this very strange,” Lee said. “They [the soldiers] came here at the request of their country and now, in the middle of it, in the middle of a deployment, in the middle of their fourth consecutive all-nighter, they’re being told they’re not welcome there. That is unpatriotic; that is unacceptable.” The senator explained these young soldiers – with 10 hours notice – left their homes to protect the White House and other properties. He said many soldiers work overnight and will have to collect their belongings at 10 a.m. and find another place to stay. President Trump slammed Bowser over the issue on Friday. He tweeted: “The incompetent Mayor of Washington, D.C., @MayorBowser, who’s budget is totally out of control and is constantly coming back to us for “handouts”, is now fighting with the National Guard, who saved her from great embarrassment over the last number of nights. If she doesn’t treat these men and women well, then we’ll bring in a different group of men and women!” Heavily armed federal officers in tactical gear have been on the district’s streets for days, after demonstrators set fires, broke store windows and stole items from the shelves and left police officers injured. The Trump administration has made an effort to show the use of force in Washington. Hours before a 7 p.m. curfew on Tuesday, cars were being stopped at military checkpoints downtown, and a cavalry of armored military vehicles could be seen driving through the district. Bowser said the administration had floated the idea of taking over the Metropolitan Police Department, a proposal she strongly rejected. She threatened to take legal action if the federal government attempted to do so. Trump announced from the White House on Monday that if “a city or a state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.”

Wow..  Absolutely stunning..   Mayor Bowser (D) is a disgusting, petty, ungrateful, bitch….and that’s being nice.  Shame on her for putting these poor Utah Guard troops through all of this.   As an update, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have secured hotel alternative accommodations in Washington, D.C. for these fine Guard troops from Utah and South Carolina.  So, we’re happy to report they’ll be ok.  That being said..  This Mayor needs to be called out for her politically-motivated stunt.  Billing issue, my ass.  She spent today renaming a street across from the White House to “Black Lives Matter” Blvd.  Yeah..no joke.  So, somehow she found the funding, and had a sign made up and everything…because that fit her political agenda.  BUT, taking care of heroes who left their families on a moment’s notice, and flew from their home state to protect the White House, monuments, and have been washing profane graffiti …were kicked to the curb because she doesn’t like the military.  What a nauseating piece of you-know-what.  Kudos to Sens. Lee and Graham for stepping up and making those Guard members are being taken care of.

Gutfeld on conflating protesters with rioters

As New York City burned, Gov. Andy Cuomo said this Tuesday on Twitter: “There are those who want to intentionally blur the lines between peaceful, legitimate protesters and looters. The president is among them. They want you to watch the videos of the looting – not the video of Mr. Floyd being murdered. Don’t fall for it.” So, a governor whose citizens and taxpayers are under attack, claims the biggest problem is witnessing the attack. The mayhem. The looting. Attacks on cops. Because that “blurs the lines between peaceful protests and looters.” I supposed he would prefer him joking around with his brother Chris on CNN again and again. So, who is blurring the lines between protesters and looters? It’s not me. It’s people like him. Because every time you mention the rioters, they accuse you of smearing protesters. We do understand the difference. Does he? Do you remember when you condemned actions of jihadists, and suddenly they accused you of Islamophobia? That when you criticized beheadings that was the same as calling all Muslims “extremists?” That idiotic response revealed who does the blurring. And it’s that blurring that hurts the protest movement. But by exposing the violent mob, you protect the future of legitimate protest. Not doing it, forever links it to destruction and death, while saying or implying that black grievance only matters if it’s expressed violently. That’s nuts. If that’s what you’re saying, Andy, you’re the one sowing discord. You’re the one who left us hanging – sacrificing citizens to the mob – just so we don’t blur any of your precious lines.

Agreed..  Thanks Greg.  That was another “Gregologue,” from yesterday’s (June 4th, 2020) “The Five.”  To watch it, click on the text above.

Gutfeld on the murder of Mr. Dorn

David Dorn spent his last moments on Earth bleeding to death on a sidewalk in front of a looted shop early Tuesday. He was a retired police captain in St. Louis and he was protecting a store. Dorn was 77. His death was shown on Facebook Live. He was a black man. A family man. A good man. Black lives matter. But not to looters, rioters and agitators. Shall we blame this on systemic racism? Who shot David Dorn? Who knows? A stranger? Maybe Seth Rogan or Patton Oswalt already bailed him out. Dorn’s son, Brian Powell said of his father’s death: “It was senseless – over TVs, over stuff that’s replaceable. They’re forgetting the real message for the protest and the positiveness that’s supposed to come out of it and we get this negative light that’s shown on a situation that really needed light to be brought to it.” Dorn’s daughter-in-law, Vanessa Powell, said: “I just hope that the person that did this that they come forth or whatever because this is just so senseless, and I’m just I’m tired of it, I’m tired.” The fact is, fealty to the mob begets only more of the mob. Redefining bloodlust as justified leads to death. And not just David Dorn’s, but a country’s too. A day ago was Blackout Tuesday, when virtue-signalers set their Instagrams to all black to support the protests going on around the country. What an analogy for the media. The media blacks the violence to hide their culpability. Which protects incompetent leaders, criminals and an army of cowardly journalists. Their job: keep the chaos on endless repeat. -Maybe David Dorn’s death can change things. Maybe we can protest loudly in his name and loudly demand action. It’s time, because there’s no Superman coming to save the day for us. There’s no one but us. On CNN, Chris Cuomo said: “Please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful. Because I can show you that outraged citizens are the ones who have America what she is and led to any major milestones. Be honest, this is not a tranquil time.” No thanks to Chris Cuomo. As cities are ravaged, he says protests don’t have to be peaceful. Chris, I invite you to meet me in my neighborhood to see what outrage created – the ravaged stores, the dead-eyed looks from people trying to salvage what’s left of their lives. If only they could work in media, and see the silver lining in their ruin. This is not a tranquil time. Thanks for the honesty, Chris.

How sad..  Thanks to Greg Gutfeld for sharing this with us.  That was adapted from his “Gregologue” on June 3rd, 2020 on The Five.  To watch it, click on the text above.  R.I.P Mr. Dorn.

Black Lives Matter plans armed ‘peace officers’ in ‘war on police,’ NY leader says

The Black Lives Matter movement will develop an armed branch of “peace officers” to combat police brutality in black communities during the so-called “war on police,” according to one of its leaders. Protests broke out across the country following the death of unarmed Minneapolis black man George Floyd while in police custody, bringing the BLM movement back into national focus. In an interview with the Daily Mail, BLM New York chapter Chairman Hawk Newsome described how the group plans to follow in the footsteps of the Black Panthers Party by matching fire with fire – when necessary. “We’re talking about self-defense. We’re talking about defending our communities,” Newsome said. “You know what it’s like to see a taser pointed at a 7-year-old, you know what it’s like to see a 67-year-old black woman … pepper sprayed and pushed to the ground?” “We are preparing and training our people to defend our communities.” Newsome attended a national conference in Los Angeles of party leadership to discuss how the movement can create a “pathway forward” for people. The plan, called “Black Opts” for Black Opportunities, details how the movement can help to liberate black people. “We have black Special Forces officers advising us, and we will teach and train people in our communities, the Black Opts department of Black Opportunities,” Newsome said. The move is reminiscent of the Black Panthers Party, which created “peace officers” who open-carried firearms while patrolling black communities in order to deter police brutality. Newsome confirmed that the BLM “peace officers” would also be armed and open carry guns in states that allow it. “We pattern ourselves after the Black Panthers, after the Nation of Islam, we believe that we need an arm to defend ourselves,” Newsome explained. “We will build and train peace officers to keep the peace in our communities, to defend our communities, to keep our communities safe.” The New York chapter is at the forefront of the movement, the largest of the 40 chapters the organization operates globally, according to its website. Newsome, who worked as a project manager at a law firm before becoming full-time activist, claimed his chapter has grown into one of the most effective ones in the world. Newsome says his chapter is raising funds for a “war chest” and plans to build a headquarters in an unused church in New York. “When we start talking about black opportunities and building our war chest to defend ourselves from the war on the poor. .. to defend ourselves against the war that is anti-blackness in America, then people will have to meet a certain criteria.” The “blueprint” for the way forward will be unveiled in Times Square in New York on Sunday at 12 p.m. and delivered to communities across the country.

Here at The Daily Buzz, we have for years been saying that BLM is just another black racist, socialist, domestic terrorist organization.  Well, now the gig is up.  They are openly admitting as much!  Mr. Newsome freely admits that BLM will train a group of its members to fight a “war with police.”  If that isn’t the very definition of domestic terrorism, I don’t know what is.  He also says he wants to pattern his so-called “peace officers” after the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panther Party.  Both of those organizations are black racist, socialist/communist, militant, anti-Semitic, domestic terrorist organizations by every definition.  Even the very liberal/left-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has listed them as “hate” groups right there with neo-Nazis and others.  BLM is finally coming out of the closet and saying they’re joining their Nation of Islam and New Black Panther Party bros in their “struggle.”  Great…

Bail reform laws let alleged criminals back on the streets within hours, threatening public security

Hundreds of looters and rioters arrested by the New York Police Department over the past several days have been immediately released due to the state’s new bail-reform law that some say is turning the criminal justice process into a mockery and threatening public safety. New York City police chief Terrance Monahan said “just about all” of the looters arrested will be released without bail. Frustrated law enforcement officials across the state say repeat offenders are getting bolder by the day and claim the state’s policy gives lawbreakers the green light to commit crimes without consequences. Louis Turco, head of the Lieutenants Benevolent Association, said the violence seen during the demonstrations in New York is the byproduct of the new law that requires defendants to be released without cash bail on a long list of misdemeanors and some felonies including arson and burglary. “This has been put in motion by our politicians that have allowed the criminal element to feel as if there’s no consequences for any crime that you do and now you’ve seen this coming out,” Turco told The Washington Post. “…Now they go home and tell all their friends, ‘Listen, I got out the next day and nothing’s going to happen to me.'” Former NYPD detective Oscar Odom told Fox News on Wednesday that he thinks it’s likely that “99.9 percent” of the people who were arrested and released from jail because of the new law have gone right back to looting. But it’s not just happening in big cities. Two and a half hours away in Albany, a 26-year-old man accused of slamming a $2,000 door and looting a hotel Monday night had been released from the county jail a week earlier despite having pending charges against him from prior arrests. Cops claim Lucas J. Kaplan brazenly swiped a badge, a credit card, cash and other items from multiple jail employees’ cars on his way out of lockup. In most jurisdictions across the country, people who are arrested and charged with crimes are required to put down a refundable deposit to ensure that they will show up for their court date. If they don’t have the cash on hand, they often turn to a commercial bond company that fronts the money on their behalf. If the person arrested cannot afford to pay his or her bail, they remain in jail until their court hearing. In 2019, New York lawmakers passed sweeping changes to the state’s bail law, limiting the number of crimes for which judges could set bail – largely to those who were believed to have committed violent felonies. Almost everyone else – about 90 percent of the state’s arrests – could walk out of jail after being processed. Even in cases where bail is permitted, judges are no longer allowed to take into account the severity of the allegations or the possible danger the defendant may pose if released. The only criterion they can consider is whether the defendant is a flight risk who would fail to make future court appearances. Should a defendant fail to show up in court, the judge is no longer allowed to immediately issue a bench warrant. Instead, the law says, the judge must give them 48 hours to come in before issuing a warrant. During the first three months the law was in effect, New York’s jail population dropped significantly. At the end of 2019, the number of people jailed across the state was close to 20,000. By March of 2020, the number had dipped to 15,000. But the celebration by criminal justice reform advocates in the Empire State was stopped in its tracks after a spike in hate crimes. In one case, a woman named Tiffany Harris, 30, had been accused of slapping three Orthodox Jewish women in late December and allegedly using anti-Semitic language during the attack. Harris was arrested and released without bail. She was arrested the very next day in connection to a separate assault. After she was arrested a third time for missing an appointment with a social worker, Harris was ordered to be held at a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Critics of New York’s bail reform law, including several law enforcement officials, used Harris’ case to show how the new law threatened public safety. In March, the New York Police Department released a report showing that crime in February 2020 had jumped 22.5 percent compared to February 2019. The cops blamed the rise on criminal justice reforms they claimed were too soft on offenders. In the first 58 days of 2020, 482 people who had been arrested on charges where a cash bail was prohibited went on to commit 846 new crimes. “Thirty-five percent of the new crimes were for arrests in seven major crime categories – murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny auto – that is nearly triple the amount of those crimes committed in the same 58 days in 2019,” the report claimed. Since then, the law has been modified to give judges more discretion in setting bail and other conditions of pretrial release but those effects won’t go into effect until July 1. New York isn’t the only place bail policies have been loosened. Since 2012, at least 19 states have moved to reduce the use of financial conditions for a person’s release. In 2018, California became the first jurisdiction to pass a law that ended money bail entirely. Under the law, only people charged with certain low-level, nonviolent misdemeanors would be eligible for automatic release within 12 hours of being booked into jail. New Jersey decided to replace its cash bail with a scorecard to assess whether a criminal defendant might skip out on his or her hearing. The 2017 change was part of the Criminal Justice Reform Act passed under former Gov. Chris Christie in 2014 and enacted three years later. A 2019 report from the state’s Administrative Office of the Courts found that people released under the new system were no more likely to commit a crime while waiting for their trials than those released under the prior system based on money bail. Alaska and Illinois have put restrictions on the cases in which people can be assigned cash bail. Both states have also encouraged their courts to use “unsecured” bail, which is only payable if the person fails to appear in court. In 2018, Georgia lawmakers passed a bill that requires judges to consider a defendant’s financial status when setting bail and allows officers to use citations instead of filing criminal charges. That same year, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu signed off on legislation that would allow low-risk defendants to be released without cash bail.

Mike Huckabee rips Mayor de Blasio for comments about National Guard: ‘His ignorance is stunning’

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) said on Wednesday that NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio refusing to send in the National Guard to address the rioting “makes no sense.” Huckabee told “Fox & Friends” that it was wrong for de Blasio to claim the National Guard is not trained to help police quell violence. “Yes, they are. That is exactly what they are trained for. … His ignorance of that is stunning to me,” Huckabee said. Huckabee said that the National Guard is “carefully trained” and “know how to get into these situations” to handle them. De Blasio earlier Tuesday announced that the city’s curfew will be extended through the end of the week following yet another night of looting, destruction and “vicious attacks on police officers.” The decision to order residents to stay indoors from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. comes as De Blasio simultaneously urged local community leaders to “not let outsiders attack” by stepping forward, creating peace and taking charge of their neighborhoods. The Democrat’s administration so far has failed to stop roving bands of looters from ransacking everything from chain stores to mom-and-pop businesses in recent days. “We are going to ensure there are additional NYPD resources where they are needed,” de Blasio told reporters Tuesday while announcing the curfew extension. “We are going to work actively and strategically to stop any disorder, but again community leaders need to be a part of this effort.” When de Blasio was asked by a reporter if he intends to call in the National Guard for help – as many governors across the U.S. have done in hopes to quell rioting linked to George Floyd demonstrations – he poured cold water on the idea. “We do not need, nor do we think it is wise for the National Guard to be in New York City. Nor any armed forces,” he said. “When outside armed forces go into communities no good comes of it.” New York City implemented its first curfew in decades Monday night around 11 p.m. But before that even went into effect, the looting was well underway, particularly in the Manhattan and Bronx boroughs.

Wow..  Gov. Huckabee (R) is exactly right.  Mayor Bill de Blasio’s (D) comments truly are stunningly ignorant.  To borrow a Rush-ism..  He is a “glittering jewel of colossal ignorance,”…and equally incompetent.  First of all..   The National Guard in peacetime is local to the state, and the commander in chief is that state’s governor.  So, they are NOT “outside armed forces,” as he suggests.  They are members of that state, and that community.  They are citizen soldiers who are full time citizens, and part time soldiers  and are specifically trained to support and augment civilian critical response agencies whether it is to support disasters from hurricanes and blizzards, or to supporting law enforcement in times like these.  For him to suggest otherwise shows either his ignorance of that fact, which illustrates his incompetence for the job he holds, OR it illustrates his disdain for the military in general.  It’s actually probably both, as he has on numerous occasions spoken out against the NYPD, oh…and remember, his daughter was arrested Saturday night for involvement in the protests/rioting that occurred there.  Soo..  The seed probably doesn’t fall far from the de Blasio tree..  Bill de Blasio is arguably the most incompetent mayor of a big city in America.  He is a disgrace.
