ICE arrests illegal immigrant after NYPD releases him after charging him with child rape, sexual abuse

Federal immigration authorities on Monday arrested an illegal immigrant who had been released from NYPD custody despite being charged with child rape and sexual abuse. Miguel Federico Ajqui-Ajtzalam, a 20-year-old Guatemalan national illegally present in the U.S., was arrested in New York City late last month on multiple charges related to sexually abusing a minor, according to a press release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) had lodged an immigration detainer with the New York City Department of Corrections (NYCDOC) after his arrest. The detainer was ignored because of New York City’s sanctuary policies and Ajqui-Ajtzalam was released from custody. ERO officers apprehended him on Monday. Thomas R. Decker, field officer director for ERO New York, said it was “inconceivable” that Ajqui-Ajtzalam – who was arrested on charges of rape and sexual abuse of a child – should be released back into the community rather than being transferred to ICE. “It’s frightening that our detainer was ignored and he was released into New York City streets to possibly re-offend,” Decker said. “The safety of city residents, especially the more vulnerable, continues to be a priority for ICE enforcement.” U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) initially encountered Ajqui-Ajtzalam in September 2016 after he illegally entered the U.S. without inspection, ICE said. He was processed as an unaccompanied alien child, issued a Notice to Appear, and was released from ICE custody two months later on an Order of Recognizance (OREC) pending removal proceedings. He is currently being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings before a federal immigration judge.

Well, this disgusting maggot is no longer a minor.  So, he can’t hide behind that defense anymore.  Kudos to ICE for all their hard work, in spite of having to deal with the “sanctuary city” bs that undermines their efforts.

New York plastic bag ban takes effect, customers ‘not happy’

The New York law banning so-called single-use plastic bags took effect Sunday, with some customers balking at the new rules. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office celebrated the law with a graphic reading “buh bye.” “Sending a big farewell to single-use plastic bags,” the mayor’s office wrote. “We’ve moved on to eco-friendly reusable bags and we’re not looking back.” New York became one of only a handful of states to outlaw plastic bags when lawmakers approved the ban last year as part of a new state budget. Under the new law, local counties will have the option of imposing a 5-cent fee on paper bags, with 3 cents going to the state’s Environmental Protection Fund and 2 cents kept by local governments. Enforcement, however, will not begin until April 1, and a plastic bag manufacturer and New York City bodega owners are challenging the law at the state Supreme Court. Stores busted selling the banned bags would face a verbal reprimand, then a $100 fine for a second violation and a $500 fine for a third infraction. Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said last year that going without plastic bags will be a “minor inconvenience” compared to the devastating impact of plastic pollution. State figures estimate that New Yorkers now use 23 billion single-use plastic bags each year. “By 2050, there will be more plastic by weight in the oceans than fish,” Cuomo said in April 2019. “You would have to be blind not to see what’s going on with our environment.” “I was totally shocked,” Target shopper Richie Alvarez, 49, told the Post. “This is what our world is coming to. Yeah, they charged me extra for the bag. That’s why I only took one. It would normally be two or three bags.” In a January 2019 paper published in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, University of Sydney economist Rebecca Taylor found that plastic bag bans in cities did reduce plastic bag use there, but that garbage bag sales “skyrocketed” because people still need to pick up dog poop or line trash bins, she told NPR.

Exactly!  This is fascist, big-government, touchy-feely, political correctness gone crazy.  It’s the kind of petty, silly bs that liberals spend all their time and effort on; making life miserable for everyone.  They focus on plastic bags and straws and other similar irrelevant nonsense, while homeless people are defecating on our sidewalks and crime is going through the roof.  No wonder people are fed up with these idiot liberal Democratic politicians.  Heck, the coronavirus is more popular than NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.

New York is the rudest city in America, survey says

We’re walkin’ here! New Yorkers are the biggest jerks in America, according to a new survey of the rudest cities in the U.S. The Business Insider study found a whopping 34.3 percent of respondents said Big Apple inhabitants were the least friendly. That was nearly twice as much as the next highest city, Los Angeles, which 19.7 percent of the 2,000 adults surveyed online in October and November said was home to the surliest citizens in the country. Washington, D.C. was ranked the third rudest, followed by Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Buffalo, Baltimore, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Time-pressed Big Apple residents, who spend life jammed against nine million of their neighbors, are notoriously short on patience for slow walkers, tourists and people who wear big backpacks on the subway. But visitors have long seen locals as the real problem.

None of this should be a surprise to anyone.

‘Death by a thousand cuts’: Government-mandated wage, benefits hurting small businesses

Business owners say the government-mandated minimum wage of $15 an hour is hurting New York City businesses, including popular eateries with years of history like Gabriela’s Restaurant and Tequila Bar. Gabriela’s, which opened 25 years ago according to The New York Post, invited customers to eat and drink for the restaurant’s final weekend before closing at the end of September. Owners Liz and Nat Milner told The New York Post that the minimum wage hike basically killed their business. They’re not the only ones making difficult decisions. The New York City Hospitality Alliance surveyed 324 full-service restaurants at the end of 2018 and found that 75% of respondents will cut hours for employees and 47% will cut jobs in 2019 because of the minimum wage hike that went into effect on Dec. 31, 2018. The wage hike affected employees at corporations like McDonald’s and small businesses alike. “It’s death by a thousand cuts,” the alliance’s executive director Andrew Rigie said. “The minimum wage increases put pressure on small businesses. They are well-intended but unsustainable. There’s only so many times you can increase the price of a burger and a bowl of pasta.” That’s what Gabriela’s experienced. The Milners said they had to lay off cleaners, middle managers, their general manager and extra servers. “I’m not against people making more money,” Nat Milner told The New York Post. “These people have worked for me for 20 years. But taxes, groceries, everything is going up and people have a little less money to spend on guacamole and tequila.” Other small business owners are feeling the pinch, too. Wage hikes have led to less hours and education seminars for Philippe Massoud’s staff at Lebanese restaurants Ilili and Ilili Box, the CEO and executive chef said. “I can’t even train or educate my staff the way I want to anymore,” Massoud told The New York Post. The Post editorial board cited the plight of Gabriela’s owners in an op-ed slamming the $15-an-hour minimum wage hike on Monday night. “Just as predicted, the $15 minimum wage is killing vulnerable city small businesses, with the low-margin restaurant industry one of the hardest-hit as it also faces a separate mandatory wage hike for tipped staffers,” the board wrote. “All this is fine with the union organizers behind the ‘fight for $15’ and the elimination of the tipped-wages system: They don’t care about any job, or any business, that doesn’t play ball with organized labor. Mom-and-pop shops can go to hell,” the board added. “Plainly, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Legislature, who are passing the laws the unions want, don’t care much, either.”

‘Democratic Socialist’ Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fined by New York for Failing to Provide Workers’ Comp

“Democratic socialist” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been fined by the State of New York for failing to carry workers’ compensation insurance for a month during her congressional campaign last year. The New York Daily News reported Thursday: “The employer did not have the required workers’ compensation coverage from March 31, 2018, to April 30, 2018, and was issued a final penalty of $1,500, which was paid,” state Workers Compensation Board spokeswoman Melissa Stewart said. “This coverage is vital to ensuring workers are protected for on-the-job injuries.” “Hypocrisy at its finest,” said state GOP spokeswoman Jessica Proud. “The so-called champion of workers, when given her own responsibility, is not following the law. It’s unbelievable.” Ocasio-Cortez has styled herself as a champion of workers’ rights — against greedy employers: In recent days, she has been championing the cause of the 800,000 federal workers whose paychecks will be delayed because of the partial government shutdown — though the president has said they will be paid afterwards, and the Senate passed legislation unanimously on Thursday to ensure that.

HAHAHA!!  One word…Karma.  AOC is the gift that keeps on giving.  She’s such a spectacular hypocrite, and yet she’s too stoooopid to even know.     🙂

New York coffee shop fined $300 by Sanitation Department for sign announcing how many cups they’ve kept out of landfill

A coffee shop in New York was allegedly fined $300 by the Department of Sanitation for a misplaced sandwich board on the sidewalk, which announced that the business had kept over 2,000 cups out of the landfill in 2018. Smith Canteen’s owner, Kerry Diamond, posted about the ironic incident on Facebook, claiming the sign has been in the same spot for the past seven years. “I’ve been spending a lot of money and time trying to figure out waste reduction, composting, and single-use plastic alternatives at the Canteen, so this really burns me,” she wrote. Diamond’s business, in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, encourages customers to bring their own cup in order to reduce single-use options and earn a 10 percent discount for doing so. She also said they do their part to help keep the street in front of their shop clean. “We keep our corner storefront as tidy as possible, sweep regularly, clean up all the litter that blows down the street, and take care of our tree pit like good citizens,” Diamond wrote. “We try so hard to be good and then to get kind of smacked down that way, it’s just kind of a bummer,” she told the New York Daily News. Diamond is encouraging the city to do more to help keep the street free of trash. “It would be really wonderful if you had programs to help small businesses become greener and if you kept Smith Street clean instead of the mess of litter and overflowing garbage cans that it’s been all year,” she wrote. Others on Facebook agree with Diamond, arguing that city officials need to worry about more important things. “Smith Street is disgusting these days. Talk about wrong priorities,” one person wrote. “As if you are the problem and not the obvious solution!” someone else commented. “Major props for keeping your business so tidy and responsible. Smith Street is a horror show and you all are a bright spot!” another person wrote. The New York Sanitation Department has since withdrawn the fine, according to the Daily News, though Diamond had planned to fight it. “We’ve investigated the incident and have determined that we will withdraw the action on this notice of violation because it appears as if the sign is within the legal three-foot limit, the street is not a zero-tolerance block and there is ample pedestrian access to the sidewalk,” spokesman Vito Turso said. “We encourage the shopkeeper to continue helping to keep cups out of landfills by all legal means.”

Oh whatever, Vito!  Fact is, you got busted by social media, and buckled under the understandable pressure from the good people of NYC.  Talk about ironic..  The NYC Sanitation Dept fining a coffee shop owner for a sign like this.  Kudos to Kerry for her good example.  If you’re on Smith Street, stop in for a cup o’ joe, and support her business.    🙂

New York City is latest to consider banning plastic straws altogether

This could be the last straw for New Yorkers. A bill to be introduced on Wednesday would ban plastic disposable straws in restaurants, bars and coffee shops across the Big Apple, and force businesses to adopt recyclable or reusable alternatives, The New York Times reported. If passed, New York City would become one of only a few major cities across the United States to ban plastic drinking straws, along with Miami Beach, Seattle and Malibu, the latter two of which will enact their new regulations come July. The bill would also reportedly ban coffee stirrers. “It’s important for New Yorkers to understand that the plastic straw is not a necessity; it’s more of a luxury, and our luxury is causing great harm to other environments,” said Councilman Rafael L. Espinal Jr., the bill’s main sponsor, the Times reported. Espinal also claimed Americans throw away an estimated 500 million straws per day, although that statistic was already called into question last month, after NBC News cited the same dubioius finding based on research from a 9-year-old boy’s phone survey. Espinal added that customers and business owners in New York City should learn to embrace “paper straws, aluminum straws and bamboo straws that are much safer for our environment.” Councilwoman and bill supporter Helen Rosenthal added that after plastic bags and bottles, straws “are the next thing that’s just taking up space in our oceans,” per the New York Daily News. The proposed bill would reportedly affect vendors who currently use plastic straws, across all businesses. Violators would be subjected to a $100 fine. A representative for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio could not confirm whether the politician supported the bill, but indicated that de Blasio is currently focused on legislation introduced by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo that would ban single-use plastic bags in the state, amNewYork reported.

The nanny-state is alive and well in NYC.  Don’t ya love these self-righteous, arrogant, extreme liberal Democrat politicians telling people that they can do without…straws?  Seriously?!?  Glad I don’t live there!  Typical liberals…Telling you that you’re too stupid, and that they know what’s best for you.  What a bunch of fascist Nazis..  Unreal..
