The Supreme Court is refusing to intervene in a legal fight over a Mississippi law that permits government workers and private businesses to cite their own religious beliefs to deny services to LGBT people. Opponents say the law will likely lead to discrimination against those who support same-sex marriage. The justices did not comment Monday in their decision to leave in place a federal appeals court ruling that allowed the law, known as HB 1523, to take effect. A three-judge panel held that the law’s challengers failed to show they would be harmed by it. The appellate judges did not rule on the law’s substance. “Two years ago Mississippi passed one of the strongest religious freedom laws in the country,” state House Judiciary B Chairman Andy Gipson, R-Braxton, told the Clarion-Ledger. “I was pleased to read today that the United States Supreme Court refused to intervene, allowing our law to remain in full effect. Congratulations to Gov. Phil Bryant and his legal team.” The Human Rights Campaign, a national LGBT civil rights group, calls it the “most sweeping and devastating state law to be enacted against LGBTQ people in the country.” The legal battle is not over, however. A federal judge has allowed the law’s challengers to try to find people who have been denied services under the law because they would be able to make a strong legal claim that they have been harmed. The Mississippi legislature drafted and approved the measure after the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage across the country. Gov. Phil Bryant signed it into law in 2016, but it was blocked for more than a year amid several legal challenges. It took effect Oct. 10. The law claims to protect three beliefs: that marriage is only between a man and a woman, that sex should only occur in such a marriage and that a person’s gender is determined at birth and cannot be altered. The law allows county clerks who object to same-sex marriage on religious grounds to avoid issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples. It also protects merchants who refuse services to LGBT people, and might also affect adoptions and foster care, business practices and school bathroom policies. Opponents say it also allows pharmacies to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions for unmarried women. Mississippi is one of 28 states that does not have a law prohibiting businesses from discriminating against people because of their sexual orientation.
The St. Louis Cardinals have found themselves in the crosshairs of the LGBT community for inviting former Cardinal Lance Berkman to the team’s annual Christian Day event. Berkman’s presence sparks controversy amongst the gay community because of his role in the fight against the transgender bathroom ordinance, aka the “Equal Rights Ordinance,” in Houston in 2015. Pride Center of St. Louis issued this highly critical statement of the Cardinals decision to invite Berkman: “Pride St. Louis is disappointed by the decision of the St. Louis Cardinals to provide a public platform for Berkman, an individual whose words and actions towards the LGBTQ+ are divisive and demeaning.” The group initially released the statement to Outsports, an SB Nation website which prioritizes news involving the LGBT community and sports. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “On its own, Outsports has called Berkman a “bigot” and “an outspoken opponent of the LGBT community” who was “one of the faces of the campaign against Houston’s equal-rights ordinance” in 2015.” Despite the backlash, as of this writing, the Cardinals remain committed to having Berkman attend “Christian Day.” The team issued their own statement in response to those troubled by the move: “The Cardinals have hosted a Christian Day at the ballpark for nearly three decades. Lance Berkman participated in Christian Day when he was a Cardinals player, and we welcome him back this year to discuss his faith.”
Outstanding!! Kudos to the front office of the St. Louis Cardinals for standing firm against the brazenly hypocritical bullying tactics of the gay mafia. They want the right, and support, to have their gay days, and “pride” parades and so on…without ANY opposition whatsoever. And yet, they don’t want the other aside (i.e. Christians) afforded the same freedom to express THEIR views and hold THEIR events. The gay mafia are a bunch of self-righteous, self-serving, hypocritical, fascist, pc-police and speech Nazis.
This is today’s ridiculous story of the day..and makes for a good laugh on this Friday. Of COURSE anything put out by UCLA (a breathtakingly liberal university in the People’s Republic of California) regarding the LGBT issue is gonna be “overblown.” Recently we reported on a newly released census study that says those who consider themselves to be LGBT is between 3-4% of the total U.S. population. I was under the impression for years (thanks to the disinformation on this subject) that it was between 8-10%. So, I was WAY off. Federal government statistics set me straight, and we reported that. Facts, indeed, ARE “stubborn things!” UCLA is suggesting that voter ID laws are “oppressing” members of the LGBT community. Gimme a break! Is that same community “oppressed” by their driver’s licenses when they get pulled over? or if they’re carded at a drinking establishment? I kinda doubt it. Its all bs; always is. And don’t ya ever notice how those same groups that cry “oppression” over such things as voter ID laws (which make perfect common sense), are those same groups that tend to get indicted for voter fraud? Groups like Obama’s old group ACORN? Yeah.. Consider the sources. Its perfectly reasonable to have to show a valid, government issued, photo ID in order to vote. You have to have one to drive a car, or be able to drink alcohol in a bar or restaurant. It makes all the sense in the world that you prove you actually live where you say you live (and that you’re not dead or a dog, etc.) in the district where you’re voting, and properly registered to vote in that election. Its just a small way, at the local level, to cut down on the out-of-control rampant voter fraud in this country. There are already studies suggesting that Obama MAY have actually lost the 2012 election, and that Mitt Romney won that election. But, voter fraud on the part of many Democrats pushed Obama over the line. Of course its all water under the bridge now. Just consider how different things would have been the last two years had Mitt won. Yeah.. Exactly..
I couldn’t believe this when I heard this on the radio earlier today.. I wanted to just bang my head against a wall. How on Earth is LGBT a “foreign policy priority,” exactly? That’s rhetorical, of course. Its not a priority. In fact, it shouldn’t even be part of ANY foreign policy discussion…because the very topic is offensive to many other countries. And, our hands our more than full with many of those same countries (i.e. N. Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, etc.). You would go NOWHERE with that topic with any of those aforementioned countries. Trust me. Yesterday, Brit Hume (an otherwise mild-mannered, reserved, cautious, very well spoken journalist) referred to Obama as “unimaginably incompetent.” THIS is an example of why Obama and his lap dogs in the U.S. Senate (lead by Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid D-NV) are SO out of touch with reality, why their priorities are so out of whack, why our government is spiraling out of control, and our national security is in greater danger than at anytime in my lifetime. The Russians are having our lunch in Ukraine, we have a president seriously considering allying ourselves with IRAN so as to fix a breathtaking screw up of HIS in Iraq, and the list goes on and on and on.. And yet, this buffoon, keystone cop of a President, and the Dem-controlled U.S. Senate, apparently has the time to talk about LGBT (and is working on legislation requiring that issue be incorporated into God-knows what all), and “climate change” nonsense…and that’s when Obama isn’t out playing golf, or going to $32K/plate fund-raising dinners, of course. Our federal government, from Obama on down, is WAY out of control and isn’t serving we-the-taxpayers well. Its time to throw these useless, and incompetent bums the hell out of office as soon as humanly possible.
