Charles Hurt: Like Rats, Democrats Feeding on Despair

One of the great lessons of the 14th century Bubonic Plague was that rats make terrible pets. Even as loathed vermin scurrying along sewer ditches and darkened corners inside people’s homes, rats — and the fleas they carried — proved capable of killing tens of millions of people around the globe. The havoc they wreaked dramatically altered the course of human history. To be sure, rats are amazing, relentless, adaptable creatures. They are virtually un-killable. For every one you finally manage to execute, six more pop up in its place, each generation smarter and more efficient than the last. Anyone who has waged war on rats cannot help but marvel at their ability to outsmart humans. It is only a matter of time before we find them driving city buses and running casinos in Las Vegas. Forget drones and droids. Rats will be our doom. Even the great “Caddyshack” exterminator Carl Spackler would be no match for the modern rat. Rats feed off of clutter, thrive in confusion, cherish mayhem and reign over chaos. They are Masters of the Swamp. For four years now, Democrats in Washington have lectured the country about the paramount importance of integrity in elections. We have been hectored over and over about the sanctity of every vote. Today, these very same Democrats are desperately urging that the 2020 federal elections be conducted by the U.S. Postal Service. Set aside the shoddy record the post office has at delivering mail and the fact that it has never conducted an election in history. Just look at the small part they have played in elections already. A month after New York’s Democratic primary, races have still not been settled — because of lost ballots that have been lost, stolen or mishandled. Turns out, Democrats only care about election “interference” when they are peddling elaborate lies about how such mythical interference hurt them. Ever adaptable, Democrats quickly evolved from fretting over rigged elections to openly supporting widespread corruption of elections. Or, take the rioting, looting and firebombing in American cities today. What supposedly started as peaceful outrage over police treatment of Black citizens in America has been hijacked by anarchists hellbent on destroying the country. As decent Americans of every political stripe watch in horror as the mayhem burns out of control, Washington Democrats move quickly to capitalize on the misery. The riots are all President Trump’s fault, according to Democrats. And then it is his fault all over again when he dispatches federal resources to quell the violence that local politicians have proven incapable of managing. But never do rats thrive more lustily than during a full-blown pandemic. Nearly 150,000 Americans have already died in this once-in-a-century plague from China. The nation is truly at war against an invisible enemy. In other words, this is the perfect time for Washington Democrats to pillage for their own personal political profit. Mr. Trump, they say, was slow to address the pandemic. This, from the very vermin who paralyzed the federal government for the first two months of the pandemic in order to pursue a fraudulent impeachment trial against Mr. Trump. When Mr. Trump shut down flights of Chinese nationals into the United States, these very same Democrats accused him of being racist, “xenophobic,” and urged citizens to gather — unmasked — in New York City’s Chinatown. After all, there is no time like a plague when rats like to party it up.

Our thanks to veteran D.C. columnist Charles Hurt for that spot-assessment of what the Dems are doing right now..  Charlie can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter.  Excellent!!      🙂

Charles Hurt: The Unbearable Whiteness of Being … Joe Biden

White Privilege, thy name is Joe Biden! After six weeks of shamelessly exploiting the tragic death of George Floyd for his own personal, political fortune Mr. Biden has finally identified the source — the very headwaters — of White Privilege in America. He found it in the mirror. Everybody knows Mr. Biden has been part of the problem in Washington for 47 years. Yet in the greatest display of insufferable, patriarchal, mansplaining White Privilege, Mr. Biden now claims that he alone is the savior America needs right now. According to him, America today is a systemically racist, unfair hellhole where justice dies at the hands of murderous cops and evil, hate-filled citizens — citizens who just happen to support his political opponent. “We remain locked in the battle for the soul of this nation,” he intoned last week. In other words, a battle between racist supporters of President Trump versus the pure and virtuous woke warriors rioting in the streets, killing cops, firebombing buildings and ripping down statues, supposedly in the name of George Floyd. But, how did we get here, Mr. Biden? You have been in power longer than just about anybody else alive. You were in the United States Senate for more than 35 years. You fondly recall yukking it up with racist segregationists in your own party for decades. For 47 years, you have been at the highest echelons of power. You were chairman of two of the most powerful committees in Congress, one of which gave you unrivaled authority to shape the federal judiciary. In your final eight years of power, you were in the White House. There you served as the wise elder statesman over the executive branch of government — a post you want voters to return you to. Such White Privilege. At the very least, Mr. Biden, you are responsible for the racist hellhole that you claim is half of America. Why would anyone expect you to fix a mess you are responsible for, a mess you refuse to even take responsibility for? White Privilege. Most troubling of all, why should anyone expect you to fix a mess that you have either ignored or proved yourself incapable of fixing during the 47 years you have lorded over every branch of the federal government? Sheer, unadulterated White Privilege. Turns out that in the 47 years that Mr. Biden has presided in Washington, he was just clearing his throat. Just warming up. Is there any more grating and obnoxious display of patriarchal White Privilege than the constant clearing of one’s throat? It is what powerful, old white men do when they have nothing to say — they have no answers — but they sure don’t want anyone else to speak up. But that’s Joe. Oblivious as ever. For the better part of five decades, Mr. Biden has toiled away at the only job he could ever hold — a long-winded, glad-handing, pompous politician in Washington. For five decades, he ran the only thing he could ever possibly run: His mouth. One of his most famous star turns in the Swamp came in 1991 when he led the “high tech lynching” of Supreme Court nominee (now Justice) Clarence Thomas. You see, Justice Thomas did not think and talk the way Mr. Biden thought a black man should think and talk. Then along came Anita Hill, who leveled unfounded accusations of a sexual nature against Justice Thomas. Well, this being a sensitive area for Mr. Biden, he decided that Ms. Hill didn’t tell the kind of story he wanted to hear from a black woman. This put Mr. Biden in a bit of a high-profile pickle. So, he bungled the whole thing and made everybody mad. Justice Thomas got confirmed without the support of Mr. Biden, the Judiciary panel chairman, but only after suffering the most despicable, underserved and dishonest smears in judicial nomination history. Up to that point, anyway. Ever since then, Mr. Biden has been getting everything wrong. Especially in the area of his supposed greatest expertise: foreign policy. He voted for war in Iraq, before changing his mind (after American troops died, of course). Then he wanted to spend more U.S. troops splitting Iraq into three countries, before everybody laughed him out of the room. He was for the war in Afghanistan — before he was against it. Oh, and he was the lone dissenter in the Situation Room against killing Osama bin Laden. That’s right, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was quicker to send U.S. troops to die in Iraq and Afghanistan than he was to kill Osama bin Laden. Seriously. And this guy has been hailed as a reigning expert on foreign policy in Washington for a half-century? You cannot make this up. And now he wants to be Commander-in-Chief? Suffocating White Privilege. It is from this rotten core that inspires White Privilege Joe to actually say out loud that black people are not really black if they do not vote for him. Just ask Justice Clarence Thomas. Perhaps the most galling display of Joe Biden’s White Privilege is that so much of his White Privilege is rooted in his smug pride over winning the lottery when Barack Obama picked him to be vice president. Joe Biden is so dumb and so marinated in his own White Privilege that he actually thinks he earned it. After all, he had run for president repeatedly and never got better than 2% — until Mr. Obama snatched him from the dustbin of history (and from the old folks home). This is where Joe Biden’s olympian White Privilege gets even crazier. Joe Biden’s campaign is not just an attack on America in the wake of Mr. Trump. It is an attack on the America that Mr. Obama left behind. Even after eight years of Mr. Obama fixing things, America is still a systemically racist hellhole, according to Joe Biden. But Joe and Joe alone is going to fix it all. Everything Mr. Obama failed to fix or screwed up more, Joe Biden — after 47 years of stewing in his own White Privilege — is going to fix it all. Oh, the magical Whiteness of Joe Biden!

Hahaha!  That painfully sarcastic (and spot-on) assessment of crazy ol’ Joe came courtesy of veteran columnist Charles Hurt.  Charlie is absolutely right.  Joe has been in Washington D.C. for half a century, and is someone notorious for having been wrong about virtually everything during his tenure in the Senate (over 35 years) and as VP (8 years).  And now, with his clearly obvious mental decline, its only been getting worse.  To think that he might actually become President is terrifying!  Charlie can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter.

Opinion/Analysis: Biden Would Prefer You Obey the Law, But You Know, Whatever

What kinds of political vultures sit around bobbing their nasty little heads in search of rotten carrion after a human catastrophe? Well, Democrats, of course! (Joe Biden is the first vulture in history to get hair implants on his pale, beady little head. Which only makes him look even more unfit for civilized company.) Emerging from the worst economic collapse in U.S. history, the country last month posted the largest job expansion in U.S. history. But that was nothing according to Mr. Biden, who, along with President Barack Obama, presided over the slowest economic recovery in U.S. history. “There’s no victory to be celebrated,” complained Mr. Biden. “We are still down nearly 15 million jobs and the pandemic is getting worse, not better,” he said in a scripted, recorded video released by his campaign. Again, this from the guy who oversaw the slowest recovery in U.S. history talking about the fastest recovery. You start to see a pattern emerging here? In this titanic struggle between humans and the Wuhan Virus, these people are rooting for the pandemic. Anything for their own personal, political gain. In other words, more dead Americans mean more roadkill for them. And while they are at it, why not gin up some riots. After all, these are the very same people who think nothing of stoking racial discord for their own benefit. Loot some stores, firebomb some police stations and terrorize people in their homes. Just more dead people for them to pick through! The lawless governor of Virginia has conspired with the lawless mayor of Richmond to join the riots by pulling down statues on public property that hurt their feelings. Actually, these statues don’t hurt Gov. Ralph Northam’s feelings. He could not care less about anyone’s feelings. He just needs to get ahead of the nearest mob. Remember, this is the same guy who dresses up in blackface or wears a KKK hood just for fun. But he cannot remember which. Either way, the picture of him in blackface or a KKK hood is all he or his family will ever be remembered for. Which perhaps is why he has such lust in his heart to take down the statues of men who were loved and revered in their own time. It is a statue fixation he has. Compensating for something. His own inner demons. Neither Mr. Northam nor the Richmond mayor were on hand as the statues were removed by crane this week along Monument Avenue. City Councilman Mike Jones attended the removal of the statue of Stonewall Jackson. “It’s dope to see African Americans assist in taking them down but we didn’t have a voice in putting them up,” Mr. Jones told a blogger from a website called Courthouse News Service. “They came down because black, white, Latinx — we all came together to make it happen.” (Quick research on the Internet revealed “Latinx” is a newly invented “gender neutral” term for Latinos and Latinas. In addition to history and statues and freedom, our Virtue Czars are also determined to tear down gender.) Anyone hoping that Mr. Biden — once he is done picking through the carcasses of the cratered economy and pandemic — might stand up for the rule of law would be hopelessly mistaken. Asked about violent mobs tearing down statues, Mr. Biden said, “It’s always better to do it peacefully, but …” “But???” Peacefully? Or lawfully? Oh, never mind. There is a “distinction,” he said, between monuments to Thomas Jefferson and statues lawfully erected in the South to remember Confederate generals after the Civil War. “I think it’s better,” he said, if the monuments are taken down lawfully. “But I can understand the anger and anguish that people feel by having for years and years been under the statue of Robert E. Lee, if you’re an African American,” he said. “But don’t expect if you have sitting in front of you after all these years and we finally — finally — are going through another phase of maybe responding to the systemic racism in America and what we’ve seen happen, is don’t be surprised if someone pulls down the statue of [Confederate President] Jefferson Davis.” In other words, the man who wants to be commander-in-chief and oversee the Department of Justice — the highest executive in the land — would prefer that people obey the law and not tear down statues. But, you know, whatever. Joe Biden may be a lot of things, but one thing he ain’t is Atticus Finch. UPDATE: I would like to issue a formal apology to vultures. They provide a real service to humankind and do not deserve to be compared to Joe Biden or any other Democrat, regardless of whether they have hair plugs or not.

Ouch!  That brutal smack-down of Joe Biden, and company, was courtesy of veteran columnist Charles Hurt.  Charlie can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter.    Excellent!!     🙂

Opinion: Trump versus all the crazed liberal lies

Brace for the fight of your life. The biggest difference between today and four years ago is that this time they know Donald Trump can win. Sure, it was ugly last time. They despised him, because they despise you. They wanted to destroy him, because they don’t care about you. They told endless lies about him because they are fundamentally dishonest people incapable of arguing about the vital issues Mr. Trump built his campaign around. But honestly, none of them in 2016 ever thought he could win. Until he did. Still, they maligned him and lied about him and smeared him in hopes of tarnishing all who supported him. It was a way of punishing the so-called “forgotten voters” who for the first time in decades had a leading politician speaking for them on the issues about which they cared the most. They hated him also because he stole the Republican Party from the limp-fisted, trained eunuchs who had taken over the supposedly “conservative” party in Washington for so long. You know, the ones who supported throwing open the borders, sending our boys to die in faraway lands defending other people’s borders, and jumping into bed with communist China. These sad losers believed that the only way to beat Democrats was by out-surrendering Democrats. Remember when George W. Bush desperately sucked up to Ted Kennedy by federalizing public education in America? You watch, it is only a matter of time before some ridiculous GOP bozo like Sen. Mitt Romney declares it is time to defund the police. Forget kneeling on the Senate floor, Mittens. You should just lie down completely prone on your belly — all the better for Democrats to walk all over you and scrape the dung off their shoes onto the back of your perfectly-coifed hair helmet. It is true, these people threw everything they had at Mr. Trump in 2016. They lied about him relentlessly. They blamed him for every ill known to man. But that was a tame, little mutton race compared to what these people will do to Mr. Trump this time — now that they know he can win. It’s not like Mr. Trump doesn’t give his enemies plenty to criticize, plenty to shoot at. He does. Every day. But for them, it is never enough. Which is why they are forever claiming he said things he never said or accusing him of doing things he never did and weaving these fantastic, bizarre conspiracy theories about Vladimir Putin and hookers in a Moscow hotel room. Just last week, they claimed he said that George Floyd, after his horrifying death in police custody, was gazing down from Heaven marveling over Mr. Trump’s epic economy. “Trump says Jobs Report Made It a ‘Great Day’ for George Floyd,” reported The New York Times. “Trump invokes George Floyd’s name while taking economic victory lap,” wrote CNN. Neither CNN nor anyone else who excoriated Mr. Trump included the actual quote of what Mr. Trump said, since doing that would have revealed that, indeed, they were lying again. “Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement regardless of race, color, gender or creed,” he said, echoing the calls for justice in the streets. “They have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement. They have to receive it. We all saw what happened last week. We can’t let that happen.” Mr. Trump was, in fact, applauding the peaceful protesters. “Hopefully, George is looking down right now and saying, ‘This is a great day that’s happening for our country,’” he went on, clearly referring to those protests that have been peaceful. But these are the same liars who claim he called all Mexicans rapists. They are the same liars who claim he did not condemn white supremacists in Charlottesville. They are the same liars who have peddled all the fairytale Russia conspiracies. The only silver lining here is that while it is true that lies travel faster and farther than the truth, the same people who tell the same lies over and over and over again eventually lose all credibility. And when those lies become increasingly ridiculous and unhinged from reality, the more quickly they become discounted. Consider just this year. Mr. Trump has resisted an impeachment bid constructed entirely of crazed lies. He has withstood a global pandemic in which more than 100,000 Americans have died so far. He has overseen the greatest economic collapse in American history. And now, riots in the streets. It is only June. At some point, these liars blaming Mr. Trump says far more about them than it ever will about him.

Exactly!  Well said, Charlie!  Veteran columnist Charles Hurt is responsible for that spot-on op/ed.  He can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter       🙂

Opinion/Analysis: Democrats, rioters don’t care about George Floyd — they’re just using him

Why is anybody surprised to see the racial extortion, lawless rioting and selfish looting in the streets of America’s big cities today — all in the name of an unarmed black man named George Floyd, who died in police custody last week? There is a whole political party in America today that is entirely built upon such racial exploitation. Democratic Party leaders in Washington do not actually care about the hardships of blacks in America today. They simply want to weaponize those hardships into votes year after year after year. Or, as one major Democrat in South Carolina famously said: “I don’t want to buy the black vote. I just want to rent it for a day.” That “day” being Election Day. They can all go back to their misery all the other days of the year. Like President Trump said: “What have you got to lose?” Lawless rioting? That is but a mere extension of the bald dishonesty and unhinged lawlessness that defines the Democratic Party today. Take their lawless pursuit of Mr. Trump, for instance. Ever since he got elected, Democrats have accused him of everything under the sun from colluding with Russians to steal the election to bribing the Ukrainian government to sparking the Chinese pandemic. All of it has been exhaustively investigated to no end. Some Democrats in Washington are actually still defending the secret evidence they claim to have proving that Mr. Trump has committed all sorts of their invented crimes. It’s all lies. Their trumped-up, manufactured charges against the president expose the profound lawlessness that even many of their own supporters now realize were nothing more than fantasies. So, really, is it any wonder that you would have roving bands of lawless thugs in masks thronging the streets, torching police cars, smashing windows and burning churches? They learned it from the best. And what about the rampant looting? I mean, why not? As President Obama’s chief of staff — who later became the mayor of Chicago — openly preached: Never let a crisis go to waste. You need a 60-inch high definition, plasma TV? Well, just grab a red cart, smash the windows at Target and load up as many as you can wheel out the door. All in the name of George Floyd. Want a free case of liquor? Take a tire iron and pry open the steel door from the alley and grab all the booze you can carry. All in the name of George Floyd. Truth is, these people don’t care about George Floyd. Or anybody else, for that matter. They are worthless criminals who belong in jail for the rest of their lives. They do not belong in civilized society. But is it any different than the example set by Democratic politicians in Washington today? When the pandemic hit earlier this year, Washington Democrats in the House used it as an opportunity to loot the American treasury for all manner of ill-gotten booty for all their various special interests. At the height of the global emergency, Democrats passed smash-and-grab legislation to pay off all their constituencies, including labor unions, the U.S. Postal Service, illegal aliens and universities. They also decided to hijack all future American elections to make it easier to commit election fraud. All in the name of the coronavirus pandemic that was on its way to killing more than 100,000 Americans. So, is it any surprise that the looters and rioters burning American cities today would do the same thing? The really sad part of all this is that George Floyd deserves better. Now, we don’t know everything that led up to his unfortunate death. But certainly, he did not deserve to die. At a time when very few things unify America, Mr. Floyd’s death unified the country. But that spark of hope was quickly doused. Soon, lawless looters and violent thugs decided to exploit Mr. Floyd’s death for their own gain. Like the man said, never let a crisis go to waste.

No kidding..   Thanks to veteran columnist Charles Hurt for that spot-on op/ed.  He’s another one who is saying what needs to be said.  These punks, thugs and losers are using the tragic death of George Floyd as some pretext to commit all of these awful acts of violence and mayhem.  It’s disingenuous at best.  Even those marching (more or less peacefully) during the day are rallying around lies.  The whole holding their hands up and chanting “Stop, don’t shoot” is a reference to Ferguson, MO in August of 2014,  and what turned out to be a lie.  In August 2014, Michael Brown NEVER said that as Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, a decorated officer, tried to arrest him.  After MULTIPLE autopsies, and several investigations including testimonies from eye-witnesses and video footage, it was determined that Officer Wilson acted appropriately, and only shot Brown in self defense as he was going for the officer’s gun.  And to those who are holding up signs, or wearing t-shirts that say, “Justice for George Floyd”…Here’s a newsflash..  The cop in question, Derek Chauvin, was fired from the Minneapolis Police Department.  His wife has filed for divorce, and oh..btw.. He was arrested and has already been charged with multiple charges including murder and manslaughter.  So, justice IS being served, as well it should be.  What he did was abhorrent, and he’s in jail.  Done and done.  The system worked.   Time to move on.  Anyways..  Charlie can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter.   Excellent!!     🙂

Opinion/Analysis: Joe Biden’s racism a Democratic Party tradition

True, we have not even elected him president yet, but isn’t it already time to start dismantling Joe Biden’s presidential library? After all, he has a long history of supporting white supremacists and just being an all-around racially insensitive, privileged white geezer. To be fair, Mr. Biden did not invent the Democratic Party or its racism. But for nearly 50 years he has knowingly and willingly associated himself with and supported the causes of the Democratic Party, known throughout history for its association with white supremacy. Just this week, The New York Times “celebrated” Memorial Day the only way they know how. They wrote an editorial denigrating the U.S. military and disparaging a bunch of military figures who have been highly revered throughout history for their leadership in the U.S. military. In the process, apparently, The New York Times editorial board made a shocking discovery that America fought a civil war back in the 1860s called, well, the “Civil War.” It is also known in some parts as the “War Between the States,” the “War of Northern Aggression,” the “Late Unpleasantness,” and, even still, sometimes just “The War.” These same crack editorial page writers also, in the process of discovering this civil war, discovered that for hundreds of years the abominable practice of slavery was legal in the United States. It was legal, in fact, until a Republican president named Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and pushed through the 13th Amendment in 1865. “Why Does the U.S. Military Celebrate White Supremacists?” asks The New York Times editorial board. This is a fairly hilarious question that reveals more about The New York Times editorial board than anything about the U.S. military. Anyone in America with even the most passing affiliation with the U.S. armed services knows that the American military is — without equal — the most egalitarian institution in the country. Military service has been a pathway to the American dream for millions of Americans, regardless of income, gender, race or religious beliefs. The fact that The New York Times editorial board does not know this tells you all you need to know about them. As the U.S. military was helping millions make leaps and bounds towards the American Dream, Democrat Joe Biden was busy kibitzing with actual white supremacists. And we are not just talking about former Sen. Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia, who was an “Exalted Cyclops” in the Ku Klux Klan before becoming the longest-serving senator in U.S. history. Both lifelong Democrats, Mr. Biden and Mr. Byrd served in the Senate together and caucused together for more than 35 years. But wait there’s more! Just last year, Mr. Biden bragged how well he worked with other fierce segregationists in his own party. So enthusiastic is Mr. Biden about his fond memories of working with the ol’ time racists that whenever he waxes poetic about them, he slips into a fake Southern accent. At a fundraiser last year, Mr. Biden recalled warmly — in a fake Southern accent — how one of the old racist bulls “never called me ‘boy.’ He always called me ‘son.’” This is how Mr. Biden always talks when channeling his party’s long, ugly history with racism and racist politics. In 2012, the last time he was fighting for his political life, Mr. Biden donned a fake Southern accent when he bizarrely warned a gathering of black voters in rural Virginia that his opponent would “put y’all back in chains” if elected. It’s the same fake Southern accent he used last week when he told black voters that they “ain’t black” if they have any second thoughts about voting for him to be president. While The New York Times editorial board is busy dishonorably smearing the U.S. military today, they would be far more effective if they trained their vitriol on the Democratic nominee for president and the future monument to his long career in Washington. Or, as Ronald Reagan might have said, “Mr. Biden, tear down that library!”

No kidding!!  Thanks Charlie!  Veteran columnist Charles Hurt is responsible for that brutal assessment of Joe Biden, and his racial hypocrisy.  As Charlie rightly notes, slavery was legal in this country until a REPUBLICAN President, Abe Lincoln, changed that.  As for the Klan..  Here’s a dirty little secret that Democrats don’t want you to know..  For the first CENTURY of it’s existence (i.e. 1865 to roughly 1967 give/take), the KKK was almost 100% exclusively made up of white DEMOCRATS.  Yeah.. That’s right.  I wonder how many black registered voters are aware of that.  That’d be an interesting poll..     🙂

Opinion: Trump’s modesty and ending political persecutions

Again and again, it is President Trump’s quiet, patient modesty that shines through. Especially compared to the suffocating loud-mouthed arrogance of his predecessor. It was Mr. Trump’s own Department of Justice that determined that its own agents and lawyers had abused their power in persecuting retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and moved to drop all charges against him. After all, the foundation of the investigation into Flynn had turned out to be a fantastical conspiracy concocted by political enemies, DOJ had used highly duplicitous means to entrap Flynn, and the frontline agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe he had intentionally lied. And of course, the only reason Flynn pleaded guilty is that two years and $5 million into this whole Kafka-esque nightmare, the retired Three Star agreed to plead guilty in exchange for assurances that the same power-drunk liars who destroyed him would not do the same to his son. Any devoted father would have done the same thing. When the news broke that Flynn had been exonerated, Mr. Trump learned about it like the rest of us. Certainly, there had been rumors and court filings beforehand that had sparked widespread commentary about Flynn’s case. And President Trump being President Trump, he had commented volubly on the topic. “I think he’s a fine man,” Mr. Trump said many, many times. “I think it’s terrible what they did to him.” Seeking to bait Mr. Trump into negative stories they were plotting, reporters asked the president whether he would bring Flynn back into the White House. “It’s something that nobody’s asked me. You’re asking me for the first time,” he said. “I would certainly consider it. Yeah, I would.” No top secret meetings. No huddling in the Oval Office behind closed doors to plot a miscarriage of justice. No confabs with the most powerful operatives in his government to conspire against his political enemies. Just wide-open, off-the-cuff musings from a perilously-open mind. That is President Trump, leader of the free world. Now, compare that to his predecessor, who weaponized the Justice Department like nothing we have seen in the better part of a half century. President Barack Obama’s first Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. famously described his role in the Department of Justice as Mr. Obama’s “wingman.” Meaning, of course, that Mr. Holder used his position as America’s top law enforcement officer to shoot down and destroy Mr. Obama’s enemies. Say, for instance, a retired three star general that Mr. Obama fired as the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency over his criticisms of Mr. Obama’s prosecution of the war on terror. Now, certainly, Mr. Obama had every right to fire Flynn. That is any president’s prerogative. But it was a wild abuse of power for Mr. Obama’s Department of Justice to hatch an elaborate conspiracy to entrap Flynn after he later became a political enemy. Compare Mr. Trump’s hands-off approach to Flynn’s case to the intimately-involved approach of his predecessor. In the weeks leading up to Mr. Trump’s inauguration, Mr. Obama stunned members of his own administration with his intimate knowledge of the Flynn case during a secret meeting with his top intelligence henchmen in the Oval Office. Even in jubilant victory after the Flynn case got dropped, Mr. Trump kept the focus precisely where it belonged. Instead of just brooding over the treatment of one man, Mr. Trump was more concerned about the larger issue of unjust abuse of power at the highest levels of the Department of Justice. “What happened to General Michael Flynn, a war hero, should never be allowed to happen to a citizen of the United States,” Mr. Trump said in a triumphant Twitter message. A few minutes later, Mr. Trump added in all capital letters: “Dirty cop James Comey got caught!” Obviously, such boisterous gloating over the ruination of fired and disgraced former FBI Director James Comey is not exactly quiet or modest. But, wisely, the president keeps the political squabbling in the political realm where it belongs. Mr. Trump does not allow his political fever to infect the judicial process as his predecessor did. Mr. Trump’s extreme modesty allows his Attorney General William P. Barr to act with the same judicial modesty and reverence for the rule of law. At a press conference Monday, Mr. Barr lamented the “increasing attempts to use the criminal justice system as a political weapon.” He vowed the practice would end under Mr. Trump, telling reporters that his department is not presently seeking criminal charges against either Mr. Obama or his vice president, Joe Biden. “The legal tactic has been to gin up allegations of criminality by one’s political opponents based on the flimsiest of legal theories,” Mr. Barr fretted. “This is not a good development.”

Indeed..  This op-ed by Charles Hurt caught our eye because not too many articles are written about Trump’s “modesty.”  Definitely a paradigm shift.  But, Charlie sure does make several good points.  Remember when Obama used to openly, and proudly say he used to be a “community organizer?”  Not sure how that was a good resume enhancer for for being President of the United States.  Anyway..  With that in mind..  Obama is from Chicago, and was the general counsel (i.e. senior attorney) for ACORN; a corrupt “community” voter outreach organization that got kids to go out and get people registered to vote for Democrats in their communities.  These would be high-school kids who were paid for each voter’s signature they could get.  In many instances they would get someone in an inner city to register multiple times.  To these kids, it was a competition.  At any rate, as you might imagine, ACORN ending up being indicted by the FBI in several states for voter fraud; something Democrats tell us all the time is nonexistent.  So, coming full circle, Obama was a Chicago thug in he White House who routinely abused his position as President, and this latest revelation about what was done to retired LTG Michael Flynn is just the latest example.  To his credit, President Trump has let the process run its course and allowed our very capable and competent AG William Barr to do his job without interference.  Thanks for that piece, Charlie!     You can reach Charlie Hurt at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter

Charles Hurt: ‘Demand Justice’ Fight Back — Against Judges Who Like the Constitution

Anti-democratic Democrats opened up a new front in their relentless war on an independent judiciary in America. An absurdly-named special-interest group calling itself “Demand Justice” filed a formal complaint with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals accusing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of wrongdoing in stacking the federal judiciary with judges who believe in abiding by the Constitution. On the face of it, the complaint is funny because it suggests that “Demand Justice” is so unfamiliar with the actual Constitution that they don’t even know how judges are installed on the federal bench. According to the Constitution, federal judges are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. “Demand Justice” is apparently upset over President Trump’s impressive first-term record confirming nearly 200 judges to the federal bench, a record one-fifth of the federal judiciary. If “Demand Justice” had actually read the Constitution, they would know that their complaint lies not with Mr. McConnell but with the American voters who gave Republicans control of the White House and the Senate. Their specific complaint gets even daffier upon closer inspection. The swamp-based special-interest group is upset that a judge on the D.C. Circuit stepped down in March, opening a vacancy on the powerful second-highest court in the country for Justin Walker, a Kentucky judge with ties to Mr. McConnell. In addition to constitutional illiteracy, “Demand Justice” also appears to suffer from a poor grasp of history. For better or for worse, federal judges — including Supreme Court nominees from both parties — often come from the ranks of jurists who have long-standing relationships with lawmakers in Washington. That is why President Bill Clinton felt confident that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg would not turn into some rogue constitutionalist on the high court. And it is why President George W. Bush felt confident Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. would not turn the court into some kind of uncontrollable super-legislature. Specifically, the group is demanding to know whether Mr. McConnell bribed the D.C. Circuit judge to step down, thus creating the vacancy for the Kentucky jurist. Now, mind you, these people offer not a whiff of evidence suggesting such a bribe. But what difference does that make? Welcome to the swamp. The baseless accusation is even more audacious for anyone with the faintest memory of the decades-long onslaught these people have waged against an independent judiciary in America. A cache of internal Senate Judiciary Committee memos exposed during Mr. Bush’s first term revealed extensive efforts by Democrats on the committee — working with outside special-interest groups — to rig the federal judiciary to get certain outcomes in high-profile cases before the courts. In one memo to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, staffers reported that they had privately huddled with a lobbyist who urged committee Democrats to stall a Bush nominee to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals until after that court ruled on a landmark affirmative action case. The lobbyist “would like the Committee to hold off on any 6th Circuit nominees until the University of Michigan case regarding the constitutionality of affirmative action in higher education is decided,” staffers urged the so-called “Lion of the Senate.” “Rumors have been circulating that the case will be decided in the next few weeks,” they added. But even Kennedy staffers — famous for their shamelessness — knew they were involved in some dirty business. In the same memo, they allowed that they “are a little concerned about the propriety of scheduling hearings based on the resolution of a particular case. We are also aware that the 6th Circuit is in dire need of additional judges.” Oh, but to hell with it! “Nevertheless,” they wrote, going on to detail their plans. In the end, their corrupt plan worked. Mr. Bush’s nominee got stalled until the court could rule 5-4 to uphold the University of Michigan Law School’s affirmative action program. It’s funny. Somehow, “Demand Justice” did not seem to have a problem stacking the courts and rigging the judiciary back then. And that tells you all you need to know about them.

And even that, is too much.  What a bunch of morons!  THIS is why elections matter.  Thanks to columnist Charles Hurt for bringing this to our attention.  He can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter.

Charles Hurt: Fake News, Real Transparency at White House Press Briefings

Behold the perils of transparency. When it comes to the press, President Trump is the most generously available occupant of the White House since the invention of television. It is almost like the Trump presidency has been one continuous, never-ending live press conference. This is what you get when you elect a reality star to the White House. Such transparency comes with pitfalls, to be sure. Mr. Trump’s public musing on live television last week about using disinfectant and sunshine to cure victims of the Wuhan virus was one of the more unforgettable moments in presidential history. Perhaps it cut a little both ways. It revealed a fearless chief executive willing to think outside the box, someone, so comfortable in his own skin he is willing to ask even the most insanely stupid questions. On the flip-side, it also showed the leader of the free world in the grips of a global pandemic willing to think so far outside the box — someone so comfortable in his own skin — that he asks one of his top scientific public health experts what she thinks of chugging Lysol and chewing light bulbs to combat the Chinese Communist Party disease. Dr. Deborah Birx, ever the consummate professional, assured the world that Mr. Trump is a guy who likes to think through problems out loud. It brings to mind the old non-Chinese proverb that it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. The really funny thing about that little train wreck is that it was only amazing to people who actually watched it with their own eyes. The national political media has so thoroughly befouled themselves that anybody who heard about it later just assumed it was yet another false, hate-filled smear by the lunatic press. “Fake news,” as somebody calls it. However you interpreted that scene, the moment was yet another exercise in full transparency from this White House. From the moment he took office, Mr. Trump has endured relentless accusations that he would shut down all access from the White House press, many of whom he calls “the enemy of the people.” “The Demise of the White House Press Briefing Under Trump,” blared the New York Times. “2018 was the year the White House press briefings died.” “Trump kills White House press briefing, 50 years after it was born.” So, what exactly was that last week where Mr. Trump opined about the miracles of disinfectant and sunlight? For that matter, what are all those other endless briefings he has hosted every night since this pandemic spawned — supposedly — from a wet market in Wuhan? The University of California at Santa Barbara used to keep track of press briefings held by presidents going back to Harry S. Truman. President George W. Bush held more than any of the previous five presidents. Even Mr. Bush probably never logged a press face-off that lasted longer than two hours — a routine feat for Mr. Trump. But the University of California conveniently quit posting updated numbers of presidential press briefings in March 2018, less than halfway through Mr. Trump’s first term. Once again reaching new depths of shameless depravity, the press is now crying uncle. “Stop Airing Trump’s Press Conferences Live,” pleased The Atlantic, a magazine website. Perhaps there is something, after all, to this whole “fake news,” “enemy of the people” thing after all.

Indeed..  Thanks to Charles Hurt for calling out the “fake news” media like that.  He can be reached at churt@washingtontimes.com or @charleshurt on Twitter        🙂

Charles Hurt: Present Shutdowns Come Close to ‘House Arrest,’ Says A.G. Barr

For all you hopeless haters out there, this one’s for you. One minute, you hate President Trump because he is an unbridled dictator trampling the rights of innocent American citizens, especially illegal aliens who are citizens of other countries. He is using the current Wuhan crisis to finally make good on all his secret promises to hand the United States over to Vladimir Putin. Whatever. The next minute, you hate President Trump because he is asleep at the switch, having completely failed to take the deadly virus seriously until it became a full-blown pandemic, particularly threatening to America’s prison population. In other words, you are political Goldilockses who hate President Trump no matter what he does. To be fair, Mr. Trump offers plenty of ammunition in his own words to arm your arguments whichever fever has presently seized you. “I’m going to put it very simply,” Mr. Trump mansplained to reporters last week. “The president of the United States has the authority to do what the president has the authority to do, which is very powerful. The president of the United States calls the shots. When somebody’s the president of the U.S., the authority is total and that’s the way it’s gotta be,” the president of the United States said. Cue the freak-out. Even though Article II, Section 5 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that the president “shall hath all vested powers to call the shots, which is very powerful.” Section 6 of Article II goes even further to explain that this executive authority is “total,” “shall be bigly,” and — simply — “the way it’s gotta be,” according to the Founding Fathers. But just last month, Mr. Trump was busy feeding different fevers. He sent the press beagles into flea-scratching yowling and hysterics when he suggested that it was actually the governors out there who have the best authority for dealing with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus now that it had arrived in their own states (from China). “Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Mr. Trump reportedly told governors during a conference call. Oh, if only the Founders had envisioned the modern conference call when they devised federalism! These remarks, of course, were immediately translated by rabid, quarantined political reporters to mean that Mr. Trump was telling governors and their disgusting citizens to drop dead. After all, he basically was telling them to go home and use their automobile tailpipes as ventilators. Or respirators. You won’t feel a thing, he pretty much told them. Except, of course, he didn’t use those exact words. Or, any of them, actually. Or anything remotely related to any of them. In fact, the next words out of Mr. Trump’s mouth were pretty much ignored in all the stories of how he had told America to please go die. “We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves,” he said of the respirators and ventilators. “Point of sales — much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.” In other words, Mr. Trump encouraged governors that they and their powers are best suited to be on the front lines battling a public health crisis such as this. Precisely as the Founders envisioned. All of which brings us to this week’s “Moment of Gratitude.” Nothing is more vital during endless quarantine than taking a moment every day to add up all the blessings around us that offset the considerable misery and hardship. This little exercise does not make the hardships go away nor does it erase the misery, but it puts everything into perspective. One of those blessings these days is happening over at the Department of Justice. Every day, it seems, we learn more and more how constitutionally unhinged the previous administration’s Department of Justice had become. At the highest levels of the most powerful domestic agency in the country, government operatives were falsifying evidence, lying under oath to judges, and using secret powers to investigate, torment, and destroy political enemies. This is all totally astonishing, and the only people who are not shocked by it are the boiling frogs. Today, however, that very same department is helmed by Attorney General William Barr, the greatest attorney general since Edmund Jennings Randolph, with the possible exception of William Wirt. While Mr. Trump gives political answers to political questions, Mr. Barr never strays from his lane of strict legal constitutionality. In a wide-ranging interview this week with radio host Hugh Hewitt, Mr. Barr defended the actions of governors and the president in responding to the initial CCP virus with executive alacrity. But he also warned that as an ongoing matter — as the immediacy of the crisis fades — the clear constitutional rights of individual citizens return to urgent supremacy. Present shut-downs, he warned, come perilously close to “house arrest.” This, of course, caused the flea-bitten press beagles back to their hide-scratching, eye-rolling madness. And at the notion the federal government’s attorney general would dare challenge governors’ authority to arrest innocent citizens in their own homes, Democrats mounted the barricades of “states’ rights!” I am not kidding. Turn on the TV. They are actually talking about it on air. Publicly. They are not even wearing hoods. (Not even the governor of Virginia.) Which is pretty comical, considering how much Democrats today claim to be sensitive to the ways in which “states’ rights” arguments have been twisted into ugly weapons throughout American history. But, then again, it was the very same Democrats who were twisting those arguments back then. Just ask Democrat George Wallace. Or Democrat Robert C. Byrd.

Ahh yes..  Remember the late Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former DEMOCRAT Senate Majority Leader who was in the U.S. Senate as recently as 2009; not the 1920s, 30s, or even 1980s?  What many in the Democrat leadership try very hard to bury is the fact that Mr. Byrd was a former recruiter, and “Exalted Cyclops” (very high rank) in the KKK.  Yep!  That’s right!  And MSNBC, CNN, PBS/NPR, and other brazenly hypocritical liberal news outlets NEVER brought that fact up…EVER.  He even got a pass from former President’s Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.  Heck, even Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton even looked the other way.  Now…just fathom for a moment if it was discovered that a Republican member of Congress or the Senate had been in the KKK…  That person would be out of D.C. so fast it’d make your head spin.  Just another example of brazen hypocrisy from the left we’re all too happy to point out.  But, we digress…  Thanks to columnist Charles Hurt for that outstanding op-ed.     🙂
