Ted Cruz beats Jimmy Kimmel in much-hyped charity basketball game

HOUSTON — Sen. Ted Cruz has triumphed over late night TV comedian Jimmy Kimmel in their much-hyped charity basketball game Kimmel dubbed the Blobfish Basketball Classic. With each basket worth a single point, the Texas Republican topped Kimmel 11-9 in a two-hour one-on-one match they agreed to abbreviate Saturday at Texas Southern University because neither appeared capable of reaching 15 points and winning by two. Speaking for both, Kimmel apologized “to the game of basketball.” The Houston Chronicle described it as “a slow-motion car-crash of half-court basketball.” The game was born of a joke from Kimmel, who said Cruz resembled the ocean bottom-dwelling blobfish. Cruz responded by challenging Kimmel to a basketball game. Two Houston charities are the beneficiaries. Game highlight videos are planned for Kimmel’s ABC program Monday night.

But, that would mean actually having to watch Jimmy’s show, or tape it..  Save yourself from watching that idiot, and just Google a YouTube video instead..   Congrats to Sen. Cruz from the great state of Texas in this most excellent victory.     🙂

Starnes: Bah, Humbug! Department store bans Salvation Army bell ringers

Belk has given Salvation Army bell-ringers and their iconic red kettles the heave-ho — just in time for the Christmas season. The national department store chain will no longer allow Salvation Army volunteers to man kettles outside their stores — a move that is expected to result in a $1 million drop in donations. “It’s a huge impact for us,” Salvation Army Lt. Rob Dolby told the Todd Starnes Show. “Those funds go to operate Christmas programs serving tens of thousands of kids. Dolby works with the Salvation Army in Anderson, South Carolina. He said the money dropped into those kettles also funds the operation of shelters, addiction and treatment facilities and youth programs. The Salvation Army said they were told the department store ban had something to do with a change in Belk’s “social consciousness.” “We believe that a lot of Belk’s customers align with the Salvation Army’s views. We believe in saying ‘Merry Christmas’…

..and that’s probably the crux of the issue..  This is political correctness gone not just insane…but offensive.  Shame on Belk.  If you shop there, tell the local general manager of the store that you’re considering taking your business some place else that supports the Salvation Army; a charity that has helped millions over the years.  To read the rest of this nauseating story by culture warrior Todd Startnes, just click on the text above.   Unreal…

Left-wing activists launch ‘No Red Cross’ campaign, ask for donor dollars

Activists are discouraging Hurricane Harvey donors from giving to the American Red Cross and urging them instead to contribute to left-wing causes, some of which are advocacy groups engaged in little if any emergency relief work. Linda Sarsour, a prominent Muslim and feminist activist, sent out a tweet encouraging donors to give to the Texas Organizing Project Education Fund, which conducts “direct action organizing, grass-roots lobbying and electoral organizing led by working families in Texas.” “TOP is one of many organizations on this list you can choose to support,” Ms. Sarsour said in a Wednesday tweet that included the #NoRedCross hashtag. “Grassroots orgs on ground. Long term needed.” The Texas Organizing Project, which has fought Texas voter ID laws and supported sanctuary-state status, is part of the Hurricane Harvey Community Relief Fund, a coalition that includes labor groups such as the Service Employees International Union as well as Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid. “Together we will organize and advocate for our devastated communities, shining a spotlight on inequalities that emerge in the restoration of lives, livelihoods and homes, amplifying the needs of hard-hit communities, and providing legal assistance for residents wrongfully denied government support,” the coalition says on its fundraising page. The conservative site Twitchy opined, “DISGUSTING: Linda Sarsour is soliciting donations for a liberal political group masquerading as a Harvey relief fund,” while the Federalist’s Sean Davis called it a scam.

Indeed it is!  What kind of nauseating loser would tell you NOT to support, or donate to, the American Red Cross, especially in  time of crisis?!?  That’s how low these self-serving, extreme liberal maggots have sunk and how they operate.  You think “price gauging” of water and gas is bad..  That’s nothing..  They want your money to support their liberal, anti-America, anti-capitalism, socialist activism..  Antifa, The “Texas Organizing Project, and the rest of these vermin are all the same thing.  And, they’re being backed by many federal and state Democrat politicians (unless they’re publicly shamed, like Rep. Nancy Pelosi) and the more extreme liberal elements of the dominantly liberal mainstream media…like MSNBC.  Keep that in mind..when they ask for your hard-earned money.  If anything, give them the finger and donate to the American Red Cross; an organization actually out there help those suffering in Texas.

WH: Trump Will ‘Pledge Proudly $1 Million of His Own Personal Money’ to Harvey Relief

Thursday at the White House press briefing, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Donald Trump would donate $1 million to victims of the historic floods in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Huckabee Sanders said, “He’s actually asked that I check with the folks in this room since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that have the best and most effective in helping and providing aid, and he would love some suggestions from the folks here and I would be happy to take those if any of you have them. But like I said he will pledge proudly $1 million of his own personal money to help the people of both Texas and Louisiana.” She added, “I know that the president, he said he was personally going to give, I don’t know the legal part of exactly that, but he said his personal money so I would assume that comes directly from him.”

Wow!!  That’s called leading by example.  Outstanding!!   🙂

Starnes: Chick-fil-A did WHAT on Sunday?

It’s not all that unusual in the Christian faith to express sympathy and compassion by preparing a country ham or a batch of biscuits or a peach cobbler. It’s how we show folks that we care – we feed them. Honestly, I think we do a better job communicating love with a sweet potato pie than we do with words. Or if you are Chick-fil-A you communicate love through a chicken sandwich. And that brings me to a heartwarming story that has emerged from the aftermath of the Islamist terrorist attack in Orlando. Now, I should tell you that the folks over at Chick-fil-A are going to be mighty upset with me. They did not want me to tell you what I’m about to tell you. But it’s a story you really need to hear. It’s a story we all need to hear – a chicken sandwich for the soul kind of story. Normally Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday so workers can go to church or spend time with their families or just sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and wave to passersby. So when I received word through some of our readers that several Chick-fil-A restaurants in Orlando had opened their doors on Sunday – I was a bit intrigued. Hours after the gunman had massacred 49 people and wounded dozens more in the Pulse nightclub, the community sprang into action. One of the most inspiring photographs showed hundreds and hundreds of people waiting in long lines – for hours to donate blood. Team members at two nearby Chick-fil-A restaurants figured those folks must be getting hungry. So somebody flipped on the lights and they started frying chicken. Before long they were serving sandwiches and nuggets and sweet tea to all the folks waiting to donate blood – along with a host of law enforcement personnel. “We love our city and love the people in our community,” a team member wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The following day many of their restaurants provided free chicken biscuits and orange juice to firefighters and police officers and first responders. “We are appalled by the senseless crime that was committed this weekend, but we are part of a community that stands strong and stands together,” they wrote on Facebook. So why is Chick-fil-A so generous? It’s because Chick-fil-A’s number one priority is not to make a profit (which they do.) And it’s not to make the best chicken sandwich in the world (which they do). Their number one corporate priority is to “glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” Chick-fil-A declined to comment on their activities in Orlando. “We are just honored to be one of many organizations that are helping our friends and neighbors in the Orlando community during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for their central Florida stores told me. Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the giant egg in the room. Back in 2012, Chick-fil-A was targeted by leftwing bullies – after CEO Dan Cathy made comments supporting traditional marriage. They were accused of making “hate chicken.” They were accused of being anti-gay. And they were castigated by the mainstream media. In May a New York City councilman objected to the Southern restaurant chain opening a store in Queens. Mayor Bill de Blasio urged New Yorkers to boycott Chick-fil-A and Councilman Daniel Dromm accused them of spreading a “message of hate.” I suspect if you asked folks around Orlando would strongly disagree with that sentiment. If you asked them, I bet they would tell you that Chick-fil-A doesn’t just serve chicken, they serve a community. As we say back home in Tennessee – those folks at Chick-fil-A – they’re good people. -Todd Starnes is host of Fox News & Commentary, heard on hundreds of radio stations. Americans are world’s most charitable, top 1% provide 1/3rd of all donations

Americans are a charitable group, in fact the most generous in the world, according to the new Almanac of American Philanthropy. In a first of its kind survey, the Almanac found that Americans out-donate Britain and Canada two-to-one and nations like Italy and Germany 20-to-one. What’s more, more than half of every single income class except those earning less than $25,000 donate to charity. The much maligned top 1 percent in the U.S. economy fork over one third of all donations made. Even in death. “The wealthiest 1.4 percent of Americans are responsible for 86 percent of the charitable donations made at death,” said the survey conducted by Public Opinion research. What’s more, Republicans appear to give bigger gifts, but Democrats pour in the smaller donations in a big number. Said the survey analysis, “If, however, you zero in on giving that is heavier or lighter than the middle range you find that the parties differ a lot. Democrats and Independents both had many zero-to-very-light givers (less than $100 for the year), and modest numbers of heavier givers. Republicans, in comparison, had comparatively few skinflints, and numerous serious donors — 31 percent sharing at least $1,000 with charity, versus 17 percent among Democrats, and 20 percent among Independents.” Americans also have high hopes for charities, choosing them over government agencies to solve the nation’s social problems, by a margin of 47 percent to 32 percent. And as a result, they want to protect tax deductions for charity, 66 percent to 21 percent.

Boy does that take the wind out of the liberal argument sail that all rich people are mean, stingy,  misers.  Not true.  And, again, we see another study which proves that conservatives are more charitable than liberals.

Romanian music fest gives free tickets in exchange for blood

Romania is tapping into the Dracula legend, offering concert-goers free tickets in exchange for their blood. The campaign is part of a push to increase blood donations in a country where only 1.7 percent of the people donate blood. Adrian Chereji, marketing director for the UNTOLD Festival, said Monday the “Pay with Blood” campaign, jointly organized with the National Blood Transfusion Institute, aims to raise public awareness. Mobile blood collection units will be set up in 42 Romanian cities for 10 days this month. Donators in Bucharest and Cluj will be eligible for free tickets for an electro-dance music festival in the Transylvanian city of Cluj. Cut-price tickets will be offered to donators elsewhere. Transylvania is the home of the fictional blood-sucking Dracula featured in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel.

How great is that story?!?  I mean c’mon..   🙂
