During an interview with ABC News released on Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr stated that he agrees with the sentiment that black lives matter and that sentiment applies to people who are victims of homicides, and black lives also matter “in the sense of ensuring that African Americans fully participate in the benefits of this society and their lives flourish.” Barr said he distinguishes between the Black Lives Matter organization, which he disagrees with, and the sentiment that black lives matter. He continued, “Obviously, black lives matter. I think all lives, all human life is sacred. I also think that it’s being used now — is sort of distorting the debate to some extent. Because it’s used really to refer exclusively to black lives that are lost to police misconduct, which have been going down, statistically. Five years ago, there were 40 such incidents, this last year it was ten. So, at least it’s a positive trajectory there, but then you compare it to 8,000 homicides in the African American community. Those are black lives that matter, too.” Barr also stated, “It’s also black lives matter, in the sense of ensuring that African Americans fully participate in the benefits of this society and their lives flourish.”
The Senate confirmed William P. Barr as the new attorney general Thursday, giving President Trump a new top cop and special counsel Robert Mueller a new overseer. Analysts said they expect Mr. Barr to be a steadying presence — and doubted there will be much of a shift in course from former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “Both Sessions and Barr are very tough on crime, law enforcement-minded people on issues like drug offenses and immigration, so there is not much light or space between them,” said Jimmy Gurule, a University of Notre Dame law professor who was an assistant attorney general under Mr. Barr during his first term as attorney general, for President George H.W. Bush. Mr. Barr was approved on a 54-45 vote, with only a few Democrats voting in favor, and just one Republican opposed. He was sworn in at the White House on Thursday afternoon, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. administering the oath of office. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called Mr. Barr’s confirmation “a major victory for justice and the rule of law in America.” During his previous stint as attorney general Mr. Barr took a strict stance on illegal immigration, and pushed for mandatory minimum sentences, just as Mr. Sessions did. That could prove to be an early test for Mr. Barr, after Mr. Trump late last year signed the First Step Act, a criminal justice reform bill that trimmed back those sentencing rules. Both Mr. Barr and Mr. Sessions had opposed it, though when asked about the legislation during his confirmation hearing, Mr. Barr promised to “faithfully enforce that law.”
Congrats to AG Barr!
Attorney General Loretta Lynch testified Wednesday that the Justice Department has “discussed” taking civil legal action against the fossil fuel industry for “denying” the “threat of carbon emissions” when it comes to climate change. During Lynch’s testimony at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said that he believes there are similarities between the tobacco industry denying scientific studies showing the dangers of using tobacco and companies within the fossil fuel industry denying studies allegedly showing the threat of carbon emissions. He went on to point out that under President Bill Clinton, the Justice Department brought and won a civil case against the tobacco industry, while the Obama administration has “done nothing” so far with regard to the fossil fuel industry. Whitehouse concluded his comments by posing a question to the country’s top law enforcement officer. “My question to you is, other than civil forfeitures and matters attendant to a criminal case, are there other circumstances in which a civil matter under the authority of the Department of Justice has been referred to the FBI?” he asked. “This matter has been discussed. We have received information about it and have referred it to the FBI to consider whether or not it meets the criteria for which we could take action on,” Lynch answered. “I’m not aware of a civil referral at this time.”
Holy crap! Consider the implications of this.. The Obama’s DOJ has seriously had “conversations” about whether or not to go after gas and oil companies in court for having the nerve to suggest that so-called “global warming,” or it’s current euphemism “climate change” is bs (which, by the way, it is). When we talk about the pc police and speech nazis, that’s one thing. This takes it to a whole new level. Thank God for our First Amendment. And, this idiot Democrat Congressman trying to make comparisons between this and the tobacco industry is fatuous and absurd. This is what happens when you have fascist Democrats in positions of power. Unreal..
Attorney General Eric Holder plans to push, during his final weeks in office, a new standard of proof for civil-rights offenses, saying in an exit interview with POLITICO that such a change would make the federal government “a better backstop” against discrimination in cases like Ferguson and Trayvon Martin. In a lengthy discussion ranging from his own exposure to the civil rights movement of the ’60s to today’s controversies surrounding the shootings of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, Holder also acknowledged that he felt some of his own struggles with Republicans in Congress during his six years in office were driven partly by race.
What a nauseating putz! AG Eric Holder has it all backwards.. EVERYTHING HE has done, has been motivated by race!…not the other way around, as he so self-servingly suggests here in this exit interview. For example, the whole Michael Brown incident in Ferguson, Missouri had NOTHING to do with race…until Holder, Obama, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, and the rest of the self-righteous, sanctimonious, entitlement-minded, Democrat, black liberal elitists MADE it about it race. As you’ll recall..Michael Brown was a pot-smoking robber and bully who, after he had robbed a convenience store and brazenly bullied the shopkeeper on the way out the door with his stolen goods, was confronted by a police officer who was just trying to get him out of the middle of the street he was walking down. Michael then physically attacked that same police officer and went for his gun! And, in the process, was shot and killed. A grand jury convened to investigate the incident and found that the officer, Darren Wilson, was WELL within his right to shoot Brown. But, because the thug was black and unarmed, and the bruised police officer white, the whole thing was somehow the officer’s fault…and that officer apparently violated the thug’s “civil rights”..according to AG Eric Holder, and the rest of that liberal, black crowd. And, AG Holder thinks people, including many Republicans, who oppose him do so because THEY are racist? Huh? What kind of twilight zone does that moron live in?!? What Holder doesn’t get, is that it is HE who is the true racist; the one who has made EVERYTHING about race. I am SO glad to see this obnoxious weasel leave. He has been, hands down, the WORST Attorney General in my lifetime. Good riddance.
“In 2013, Reporters Without Borders downgraded America’s standing in the global free press rankings, rating the Obama administration as worse than Bush’s. It matters not that when caught the government promises to dial back or that [FOX News’] James Rosen gets an apology. The message has already been received. If you cross this administration with perfectly accurate reporting they don’t like, you will be attacked and punished. You and your sources may be subjected to the kind of surveillance devised for enemies of the state.”
Some pretty brutal, and scathing, comments from former CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson who was testifying at Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch’s hearing. She has been the victim of our fascist Obama administration. Watch this video
President Obama has chosen Loretta Lynch, the U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y., as his nominee to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder — ending widespread speculation over who might fill Holder’s shoes and teeing up a nomination debate during the lame-duck session.
As we’ve noted here at The Daily Buzz on numerous occasions, race is EVERYTHING to Obama. So, hope you’ll forgive my cynicism over this selection. But, that aside.. I think another BIG reason that Loretta Lynch was selected by Obama was because she has a career built on working with the likes of Al Sharpton and going after (i.e. prosecuting) cops for this or that. Don’t misunderstand. I’m sure that many of those cops were guilty of what they were prosecuted by Loretta for. But, an examination of her career shows that she focused on that quite a bit; going after cops. As someone originally from St. Louis, its not lost on a lot of us what the not-so-subtle implications of this nomination signify. Something to definitely keep an eye on…
The contempt of Congress case against Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. — the first sitting Cabinet member ever to face such a congressional rebuke — will continue even after his resignation takes effect, but it’s unlikely he will ever face personal punishment, legal analysts said Thursday.
Excellent!! This case SHOULD go forward. AG Eric Holder’s brazen arrogance and disregard for the rule of law as it relates to the Fast and Furious scandal, as well as the Benghazi and IRS scandals, is truly breathtaking. He thinks he is above the law because he’s the Attorney General. If anything he should lead by example and follow it to the letter. But, not Eric Holder.. Anyway, regardless of when he leaves office, this case absolutely SHOULD go forward.
I got this news alert on my iPhone this morning and said, “Thank God!!” AG Eric Holder is, hands down, the worst AG in my lifetime, and has been a racial divider…using his office to push his racist agenda and further tear this country apart. I thought former AG Janet Reno in the Clinton administration was bad. She was just incompetent. AG Holder sees his role as an activist position, which its not. Not only is he incompetent, but he has an agenda. The role of AG is to simply be the senior law enforcement official in the land; to enforce federal laws on the books, while being impartial and not being an advocate for any particular position. That’s it!! Unfortunately, AG Holder hasn’t seen it that way, and has openly used the position to push his racial agenda. Anyway, I’m very glad to hear he’ll be leaving. He SHOULD have been impeached, and removed years ago. But, we’ll take this. I’m just curious WHY he’s leaving now…right before an election. I’m sure we’ll learn more soon. Stay tuned…
Well, at least he’s honest about that.. No, Mr. Attorney General. Your job is NOT to be an “activist.” Its to enforce the law of the land, and do so without bias/prejudice, and regardless of your political party, philosophy, etc. The AG is supposed to be fair and impartial. You clearly don’t get that.. You enforce those laws you want to, and ignore those you don’t like. Of course, that’s a brazen, clear violation of your oath of office. But, hey.. at least you’re honest about your position. Tool..
