Dana Perino: ‘Disgusting’ for Cuomo to support income taxes on health care workers who came to NYC

“The Five” co-host Dana Perino voiced her displeasure Thursday with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo after he announced that health care workers from around the country who traveled to his state to help fight the coronavirus pandemic would have to pay income taxes on money earned there. “I remember when the governor made this plea and he said, ‘Please, if you come to New York — we need additional workers, health care workers, nurses, doctors, please come to New York.’ And so many people answered the call,” Perino said. “And now he says, ‘Thank you for coming … You’re going to actually have to pay taxes on what we are paying you.’ “They’re getting paid. But it wasn’t easy to come to New York, to the epicenter where they’re putting themselves in harm’s way,” Perino added. “And then what he said today is, ‘If the federal government could help us out with some of our state losses, then maybe I wouldn’t have to do this, but sorry. Because the government won’t do it. I have to do this to you.’ That is wrong.” Cuomo said New York, which has seen more coronavirus cases than any other state in the U.S., is in dire need of federal funding to help it cope with the crisis. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has opposed so-called “blue state bailouts,” and rankled Cuomo last month when he suggested that states be allowed to declare bankruptcy instead. “Using [health care workers] as pawns in this scheme, terrible behavior,” Perino said. “That’s disgusting.”

Go Dana!!  Dana is exactly right here!  The dominantly liberal mainstream media has been building up Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) as this well spoken, attractive, articulate governor in command of the facts, and who might be a serious contender for the Dem Presidential nomination (something he has said he’s not interested in, btw) should Joe Biden’s campaign dissolve.  But, in fact, Gov. Cuomo has been a disaster for New York.  What he’s done with putting sick people in nursing homes and increasing the mortality of the elderly there is horrific.  And, the way he’s treating these care givers from out of state is, as Dana say, “disgusting.”  Shame on him, and those in the media not calling him out for it.

  1. I don’t believe paying taxes if you work in NY is a new thing, I’m not justifying it by any means, but paying NY tax if you work there has been in place for years, as way to combat people who live in NJ and CT and commute. The pandemic is brining this absurd law into light. I can see why Cumo is asking for federal bale out, the loss revenue with his stay at home orders has cost a revenue. For years NY has mismanaged their budgets, and tried to fix it through raising of taxes, taxing those that ‘commute’, and other hidden tax penalties. Now that their cash cow is drying up people are starting to see just how bad it really is. Adding salt to the wound is Cumo is asking for additional for Federal funding when he is already taxing people to death, rather than trying to fix his budget. If anything I hope this makes people wake up and start paying attention to what is going on, and not just in NY, but in their own state…and stop being lamps being lead by the sheep.

  2. Agreed! People DO need to pay more attention to what their elected officials are doing with their money. As for Dana’s comments regarding the taxing of those nurses and doctors who came from out of state… I think if you go back to the story, click on the hypertext and watch the video of her, you’ll see that what she found “disgusting” was HOW Gov. Cuomo (D-NY) is handling the whole issue. He put out a plea for doctors and nurses to please come to NYC and help with this crisis. And, being good Americans, they came.. She acknowledges that they didn’t do it for free. BUT, once they left, Gov. Cuomo said that those good people would have to pay state taxes not only on their efforts in the state of NY, but ALSO on NY taxes on their jobs back HOME in the states where they came from. How crazy is that?!? It was a classic bait and switch. NY is also doing that to “Samaritan’s Purse,” a non-profit organization headed up by Rev. Franklin Graham (son of the late Rev. Billy Graham). They set up hundreds of hospital tents in Central Park to assist with the Wuhav virus breakout there. BUT, because they’re a CHRISTIAN-affiliated organization, they’re being told to pack up and leave because they’re unwanted (after they came and helped out for FREE) and they’re trying to tax their presence there. Again, Dana is right. It IS “disgusting.” You couple that with the unfolding scandal related to how Gov. Cuomo ordered sick people be sent to NURSING HOMES, and THOUSANDS of elderly died because of it, and you’re seeing a state that really screwed up BAD. The media has been propping up Gov. Cuomo as this articulate, decisive, appealing (DEMOCRAT, of course) politician who is in command of the facts…and who could be a presidential contender. He has proven to be a total disaster for NY. When this whole thing started, Gov. Cuomo (who is NO fan of Trump) requested ALL sorts of things from the federal govt. President Trump responded by sending the Navy hospital ship Comfort. It had hundreds of hospital beds. Only about 19 were ever used. Trump sent the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who set up THOUSANDS of hospital rooms/beds. Only a handful were used. THEN, Cuomo requested all of these ventilators. Only a fraction were ever used. NOW, Cuomo is saying he needs all of this money from we-the-taxpayers. I say, screw him! He has mismanaged what we’ve given him so far. And, the way he’s treating first responders from other states.. I can’t imagine anyone with half a brain willing to give him the time of day. What a tool… Anyway, thanks for weighing in, Shannon! 🙂
