CNN ripped for segment on witches offended by Trump: ‘The derangement is real’

CNN faced ridicule on social media over the weekend after it aired a segment showcasing self-described witches who are offended by President Trump’s repeated use of the word “witch hunt.” “Witches of the world have a problem with President Trump. Here’s Jeanne Moos,” CNN host Kate Bolduan declared before cutting to a report by Ms. Moos on “OutFront.” In the segment, Ms. Moos interviewed two self-described witches who take offense to Mr. Trump’s characterization of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt.” “Really disgraceful. I mean, thousands of people were executed in Europe on suspicion of witchcraft,” said David Salisbury, author of “Witchcraft Activism: A Toolkit for Magical Resistance.” “Closer to home, there were the Salem witch trials,” added Ms. Moos. “Nineteen supposed witches were hanged.” Yates Garcia, a “practicing witch,” said Mr. Trump’s flippant use of the term shows his “ignorance.” “There’s a lot to be offended by Donald Trump,” she said. “And I think his use of the term ‘witch hunt’ is very low on the list of priorities for most witches, but nevertheless it does demonstrate his ignorance as usual.” The segment was mocked on social media by conservatives, including the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. “The Derangement is real folks.”

Indeed!  CNN again shows its true colors.  We all know how liberal it is as a network.  But, this silliness is even being ridiculed by many on the left.  The term “witch hunt” has been part of our American English lexicon for generations…and CNN knows it.  Had it been used by Obama or anyone else, it wouldn’t even be a story.  But, because Trump used/uses the phrase, its somehow news to CNN.  What a worthless network.  Fake news!

Analysis: If Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Green New Deal’ succeeds in 2019 it will be the most radical plan offered in decades

Incoming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., pledged to voters she would be a far-left outsider who would push her party toward adopting “democratic socialist” policies, including universal health care and free college tuition. So far, she has kept her promise. Ocasio-Cortez has been calling for the creation of “Green New Deal” legislation, which would eliminate much of the United States’ fossil-fuel consumption. So far, Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., and 40 House Democrats have said they support the proposal. Although the broad talking points of the plan have been circulating for months, it wasn’t until recently that Ocasio-Cortez provided any details of her proposal. On December 3, according to The Atlantic, Ocasio-Cortez spoke at a town hall led by Sanders and declared, “This is going to be the New Deal, the Great Society, the moon shot, the civil-rights movement of our generation.” The specifics have still not been worked out, but what we know so far about her plan is that it would have catastrophic economic consequences, dramatically increase America’s already skyrocketing debt, and transform the United States into a European-style socialist nation. (And no, these are not exaggerations.) In a draft resolution to create a House select committee that would be responsible for writing the Green New Deal legislation, Ocasio-Cortez outlines the primary goals of her plan. Among them, Ocasio-Cortez proposes eliminating all fossil-fuel-powered electricity, closing every coal and natural gas power plant in the country, thus destroying the hundreds of thousands of jobs related to these businesses. Even more stunning, all this would occur by 2030, just 10 years after Ocasio-Cortez expects the legislation to be completed. In its place, nearly all energy would be produced by renewable sources of power, especially wind and solar. This goal would create massive amounts of economic harm. Although economists have yet to provide an analysis of Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal to eliminate all fossil fuels, other studies have found less-extreme policies would be absolutely devastating. A study published in October 2018 by Capital Alpha Partners on behalf of the Institute for Energy Research found a national tax on carbon dioxide would cost the U.S. economy $4.21 trillion to $5.98 trillion, depending on the tax level chosen, in just the first 10 years of the tax scheme. By 2040, as much as $12.32 trillion would be lost. Nearly one-quarter of the country’s GDP, relative to what it would otherwise be, could be lost as a result of a nationwide carbon-dioxide tax. And this far left-wing plan is nowhere near as radical as Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal. Not only would Ocasio-Cortez’s plan destroy trillions of dollars in wealth, but it would also be virtually impossible to achieve. When the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining, renewable electricity generation relies on fossil-fuel power to keep the lights on. Currently, the only way to have a 100 percent renewable-energy-powered electric grid would be for Americans to live without power when renewables aren’t producing enough energy. Among many other problems, that means there would be no stable electricity sources for hospitals and other essential services. Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t merely want to destroy the existing energy industry, the plan also requires “upgrading every residential and industrial building for state-of-the-art energy efficiency, comfort and safety” and “eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from, repairing and improving transportation and other infrastructure, and upgrading water infrastructure.” Ocasio-Cortez’s draft resolution also proposes the elimination of “greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacturing, agricultural and other industries.” The radical nature of these proposals cannot be understated. “Upgrading every residential and industrial building”—not just to make them more energy efficient, but also to improve “comfort and safety”—would cost untold trillions of dollars and insert the government into nearly every home and business in the country. Further, banning fossil fuels from all agricultural, manufacturing, and transportation would dramatically increase the cost of every product in the United States and make it difficult for American businesses to export products at reasonable prices. Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal would also establish other extremely expensive government programs that would greatly expand the power and influence of the federal government. One such program would “assure a living wage job to every person who wants one.” Additionally, she says the Green New Deal legislation should include “additional measures such as basic income programs, universal health care programs and any others as the select committee may deem appropriate to promote economic security, labor market flexibility and entrepreneurism.” How does Ocasio-Cortez propose to pay for these many trillion-dollar programs? By raising taxes, creating new “public banks,” and running up the national debt. In a “Frequently Asked Questions” section of Ocasio-Cortez’s draft resolution, she claims the way to fund her far-reaching proposals is to use the “same ways that we paid for the 2008 bank bailout and extended quantitative easing programs, the same ways we paid for World War II and many other wars. The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments, new public banks can be created (as in WWII) to extend credit and a combination of various taxation tools (including taxes on carbon and other emissions and progressive wealth taxes) can be employed.” New reports indicate the House Democratic Party leadership has said it has decided not to create Ocasio-Cortez’s committee—for now. But supporters of the plan aren’t giving up. They say they are going to continue pushing for these policies until they are transformed into legislation. Together, Ocasio-Cortez’s proposals would effectively eliminate fossil fuels from most of society, destroy millions of jobs and trillions of dollars of wealth, require “upgrading” every home and business in America, create a national federal jobs-guarantee program, impose single-payer health care (costing trillions more), establish a new system of publicly owned banks, run up the national debt by countless trillions of dollars, and move the United States closer than ever to socialism. If we don’t stop it, it will destroy our economy for a whole generation of Americans.

Putin to deploy new hypersonic missile system as arms race escalates

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday his army would deploy a new hypersonic nuclear-capable missile system next year, upping the ante in a high-tech arms race with the U.S. Mr. Putin made the announcement at a Kremlin meeting following tests of the hypersonic system known as Avangard. “The test was completely successful: all technical parameters were verified,” Mr. Putin said, according to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency. “Starting from next year, in 2019, a new intercontinental strategic system Avangard will enter service in the Russian army and the first regiment in the Strategic Missile Troops will be deployed,” Mr. Putin said. The Avangard is a strategic intercontinental ballistic missile system equipped with a gliding hypersonic maneuvering warhead. Hypersonic warheads travel faster than traditional ballistic missiles. They reach speeds of Mach 5 or five times the speed of sound, about one mile per second.

WATCH: Greg Gutfeld Show Introduces Gluten-Free, Eco-Friendly ‘P.C. Santa’

A recent survey found that close to a third of respondents believe Santa Claus should be either female or gender-neutral. The survey, conducted by logo-making company GraphicSprings, asked participants in both the U.S. and United Kingdom how they would change Santa. According to the data, 23 percent of respondents think that Santa should use Amazon Prime and 17 percent believe he should travel via hover-board. In response, The Greg Gutfeld Show introduced “P.C. Santa” on Saturday night. P.C. Santa condemns elitist gift-giving — “a hallmark of the bourgeoisie” — and looks to redistribute the wealth found in expensive presents. He’s gluten-free and no longer wants cookies left out for him. Instead, P.C. Santa opts for a kale smoothie. He even ditches his reindeer and drives a Chevy Volt!

Opinion/Analysis: The War on Christmas

In the opening sequence of Scrooged — which Sonny Bunch correctly identifies as one of the great Christmas movies of the modern age — we’re teased with the trailer for a movie called The Night the Reindeer Died. In this fictional made-for-TV movie, Santa’s workshop is attacked by machine-gun-wielding terrorists. Amid heavy artillery fire, Mrs. Claus races to the gun locker to hand out heavy weapons to the elves. Suddenly, Lee Majors, the Six Million Dollar Man (that’s $32 million in today’s dollars), rides up on a snowmobile. As the bullets fly, Majors asks Santa, “Is there a back way out of this place?” Kris Kringle responds, “Of course there is, Lee, but this is one Santa who’s going out the front door.” Majors nods silently in admiration of Santa’s grit. But he warns St. Nick, “Look, it don’t matter a hill of beans what happens to me, but the world couldn’t afford it if anything happened to you. Now you stay put.” “Aw, that’s very nice of you, Lee,” Santa says gratefully. He then adds, “And, Lee, you’re being a real good boy this year.” Majors then sets off on his death-dealing way to vanquish the enemies of Yuletide. “Eat this,” he grunts as he mows down the Santa-sacking psychos with his modernized hand-held Gatling gun. Now that’s my kind of war on Christmas. Alas, today’s “war on Christmas,” which has become for cable news an annual ritual, is merely another one of those metaphorical wars, like the wars on women, poverty, cancer, global warming, history, energy, religion, and science. (I’m sure I’m leaving a few dozen out.) Of course “metaphorical” doesn’t mean “fictional.” The “war” on poverty is — or was — a real thing; it just wasn’t a war. And yet the metaphorical wars have the capacity to elicit as much outrage as actual wars. For instance, in the Middle East and ever-growing swaths of Africa, there are nonmetaphorical wars on women, Christians, Jews, science, history, and gays. These wars have all the hallmarks of actual war, what with the killing, rape, and slavery. But in the United States the “war” on women that arouses so much passion from politicians and liberal activists should really be put in air quotes. Ditto the “war” on Christmas. Of course, the Left has always loved its metaphorical wars, ever since William James announced the pressing need for the “moral equivalent” of war. President Obama has kept that tradition alive, routinely calling for warlike unity in his effort to pour money down any number of rat holes. But the moment when the tail-chasing dog ate himself came when Obama declared a lexicological war on war, changing the “war on terror” to “overseas contingency operations.” Terrorist attacks became “man-caused disasters,” and American reprisals were euphemized as “kinetic military operations.” It was, to borrow a phrase, a metaphorical war to end all literal wars. We’ll know that battle has been won when we start talking about the Domestic Contingency Operation against Christmas. The merits of these metaphorical wars vary widely. War on cancer? Worth fighting. War on science? Mostly a bogus PR campaign to bully conservatives into silence. But the war on Christmas represents a special kind of passive-aggressive jackassery because the aggressors deny they have declared a war. They simply take offense at Christmas cheer. They cancel Christmas pageants. They leave baby Jesus in a cardboard box in the church basement, but see nothing wrong with celebrating the Winter Solstice as if that’s a more rational thing to do. And then, when people complain about this undeclared war on Christmas, the aggressors mock and ridicule them for paranoia and hyperbole. Since we’re comparing things to actual wars, it’s a bit like Vladimir Putin’s mischief in the Ukraine. He sends troops across the border, then denies they’re Russian soldiers. The soldiers kill Ukrainians, but Russian TV floats the idea it’s all a hoax trumped up by the West. Then, after the Russians create facts on the ground, they whine when anyone makes a fuss. So it is with the war on Christmas.

Gang Members, Sex Offenders Arrested near Border in Texas and Arizona

Border Patrol agents in Arizona and Texas stopped multiple previously deported sex offenders and members of violent gangs from making their way into the U.S. interior in the past week. Nogales Station agents arrested a Honduran national after he illegally crossed the border near Nogales, Arizona. Agents transported 51-year-old Hector Gustavo Montoya-Irias to the station, where they carried out a biometric background investigation on the man, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The records check revealed an extensive criminal history and membership in the dangerous 18th Street gang. Most recently, a court convicted the man for drug smuggling offenses and sentenced him to 24 months in prison. Immigration officers deported the man to Honduras. His record includes more than 10 previous removals from the U.S., officials stated. His record of deportations dates back to 1993. Agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested a Honduran national who illegally crossed the border near Eagle Pass, Texas, on December 18. The agents carried out a background investigation on the migrant and learned he is a confirmed member of the violent Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang. Records also show that immigration officers previously removed the migrant. “Border Patrol agents routinely encounter dangerous individuals while on duty securing our borders,” Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak said in a written statement. “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are committed to stopping any threat to the safety and security of our nation.” Ajo Station Border Patrol agents came upon an illegal immigrant from Mexico on December 19 after he crossed the border near Lukeville, Arizona. Agents arrested and transported him to the station to undergo a biometric background investigation. The agents identified the migrant as a 46-year-old Mexican national with a prior conviction in 2002 for unlawful sexual conduct of a minor. A court in Mesa, Arizona, handed down the conviction. Del Rio Sector agents also arrested a previously deported sex offender that same day. The Honduran national illegally crossed the border near Eagle Pass. A New Brunswick, New Jersey, court previously convicted the now 26-year-old male in 2012 and sentenced him to 255 days in prison for sexually fondling a child. Immigration officers deported the man in 2013. The following day, Nogales Station agents apprehended a 24-year-old Salvadoran national. Records pulled by the agents uncovered the man’s membership in the MS-13 gang who had previously been deported.

NASA puts return to moon in crosshairs with ambitious timetable

NASA is buzzing with excitement these days about its ambitious new mission to return to the moon — this time to stay. The agency set an aggressive timetable to have the Gateway space station orbiting the moon by 2024, then begin ferrying astronauts from the station to the lunar surface sometime after 2026. And that is just the beginning. Gateway also will serve as an outpost for deep space science and exploration, including a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s, according to NASA. The timeline, which some scientists say is overly optimistic, isn’t fast enough for President Trump, who dreams of sending humans on the 33.9-million mile journey to the red planet during his administration. “We want to try to do it during my first term or at worst during my second term. So we’ll have to speed that up a little bit, OK?” he quipped in a video call last year with NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The president likely will have to make do with getting astronauts aboard Gateway before the end of a potential second term. Just hitting the 2024 goal will take major technical feats and a bunch of cash. So far, the Trump administration and Congress have kept the money flowing, with $19.5 billion in 2018 and $19.9 billion teed up for 2019. NASA has spent years drafting plans for Gateway, officials known as Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway or LOP-G, but the space agency has not yet built any of it. The design for the 55-ton orbiting station consists of several components: a power and propulsion unit, a habitat module to house astronauts, an airlock section where spacecraft will dock and a massive robotic arm. The first section NASA wants to finish is the power and propulsion element, currently scheduled to deploy in 2022. If everything goes according to plan, the next pieces — habitat and airlock modules — would quickly follow. They would be delivered by the agency’s new deep space rocket, the Space Launch System or SLS. Heralded as the world’s most powerful rocket, SLS has been under development for a decade and is scheduled for its debut flight in 2020. The flight, code named EM-1, is supposed to send the empty Orion crew capsule on a three-week voyage around the moon.

Opinion/Analysis: The last straw for President Trump

Some of our knowledgeable but more cranky foreign-policy experts have absolutely had it with President Trump — as they have at least once a week every week since Jan. 20, 2017. This time the source of their profound disappointment, even amazement, is that the president would so alienate a great soldier-statesman like James Mattis as to wind up with his resignation as defense secretary — and just days before Christmas. What these distinguished complainers maybe won’t accept is that at the core of the Mattis-Trump incompatibility is the president’s understanding of a basic reality. It is that the exercise of comity and nothing but comity with allies, though soothing to Mattis-type souls everywhere, isn’t and wasn’t cutting it. The U.S. did the punching while our allies held our coat. OK, a bit of an overstatement, but it lights up the target. The target point is our repeated, unwise, unnecessary military intervention abroad in the absence of a clear and present danger to the United States. Syria was never a threat to us. A source of irritation for Israel and Saudi Arabia maybe. A ruthless suppressor of speech and assembly to its own people. But not a threat to the United States. Mr. Trump also appears to understand that once U.S. troops are committed, there is no unarguably right time to withdraw them. Washington has been tying itself in knots in Afghanistan for 17 years and in Iraq for 15. What’s the game plan there? When will enough be enough? What’s victory look like there? General Mattis, for all his dedication and valuable military leadership over a lifetime, can’t seem to answer that question. What he does say, once boiled down, comes out to what every other establishment member of both parties always says: Better to fight them (terrorists, Saddam Hussein, Bashar al-Assad and on and on) over there than here. A false either-or. They fight us over here because we fight them over there. The about-to-depart defense secretary says with first-glance plausibility that we can’t sacrifice our allies by cutting and running from a war. Any war. Any time. Anywhere. Yes we can. The Obama administration, without a congressional declaration of war, took us into the Syrian civil war not to help the Kurds establish an independent state. We entered because, in the full plenitude of our foreign policy arrogance, we thought we could pick the winning side, establish a mini U.S.-style government in Damascus, protect the Christian minority, end Russian and Iranian influence in the country — and all go to the seashore on Sunday. As usual, we were clueless about the hugely complex religious, tribal, local, regional, political interests struggling for incompatible ends against each other in some cases and in alliance with this or that party in other cases — and America be damned. But, yes, Secretary Mattis, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, our neoconservative war hawks and our foreign-policy establishment are right. This is not the ideal time to withdraw from Syria — or from Afghanistan for that matter. Hard to imagine, realistically at least, an indisputably right time in the near — or even far — future.

Analysis: How arrest of Chinese ‘princess’ exposes regime’s world domination plot

Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou’s arrest in Vancouver on Dec. 6 led to immediate blowback. Furious Chinese Communists have begun arresting innocent Canadians in retaliation. So far, three of these “revenge hostages” have been taken and are being held in secret jails on vague charges. Beijing hints that the hostage count may grow if Meng is not freed and fast. Even for a thuggish regime like China’s, this kind of action is almost unprecedented. So who is Meng Wanzhou? Currently under house arrest and awaiting extradition to the US, she will face charges that her company violated US sanctions by doing business with Iran and committed bank fraud by disguising the payments it received in return. But to say that she is the CFO of Huawei doesn’t begin to explain her importance — or China’s reaction. It turns out that “Princess” Meng, as she is called, is Communist royalty. Her grandfather was a close comrade of Chairman Mao during the Chinese Civil War, who went on to become vice governor of China’s largest province. She is also the daughter of Huawei’s Founder and Chairman, Ren Zhengfei. Daddy is grooming her to succeed him when he retires. In other words, Meng is the heiress apparent of China’s largest and most advanced hi-tech company, and one which plays a key role in China’s grand strategy of global domination. Huawei is a leader in 5G technology and, earlier this year, surpassed Apple to become the second largest smartphone maker in the world behind Samsung. But Huawei is much more than an innocent manufacturer of smartphones. It is a spy agency of the Chinese Communist Party. How do we know? Because the party has repeatedly said so. First in 2015 and then again in June 2017, the party declared that all Chinese companies must collaborate in gathering intelligence. “All organizations and citizens,” reads Article 7 of China’s National Intelligence Law, “must support, assist with, and collaborate in national intelligence work, and guard the national intelligence work secrets they are privy to.” All Chinese companies, whether they are private or owned by the state, are now part and parcel of the party’s massive overseas espionage campaign. Huawei is a key part of this aggressive effort to spy on the rest of the world. The company’s smartphones, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray, can be used to “maliciously modify or steal information,” as well as “conduct undetected espionage.” Earlier this year the Pentagon banned the devices from all US military bases worldwide. But Huawei, which has been specially designated as a “national champion,” has an even more important assignment from the Communist Party than simply listening in on phone conversations. As a global leader in 5G technology, it has been tasked with installing 5G “fiber to the phone” networks in countries around the world. In fact, “Made in China 2025” — the party’s aggressive plan to dominate the cutting-edge technologies of the 21st century — singles out Huawei as the key to achieving global 5G dominance. Any network system installed by a company working hand-in-glove with China’s intelligence services raises the danger of not only cyber espionage, but also cyber-enabled technology theft. And the danger doesn’t stop there. The new superfast 5G networks, which are 100 times faster than 4G, will literally run the world of the future. Everything from smartphones to smart cities, from self-driving vehicles to, yes, even weapons systems, will be under their control. In other words, whoever controls the 5G networks will control the world — or at least large parts of it. Huawei has reportedly secured more than 25 commercial contracts for 5G, but has been locked out of an increasing number of countries around the world because of spying concerns. The “Five Eyes” — Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the US — have over the past year waged a concerted campaign to block the Chinese tech giant from dominating next-generation wireless networks around the world. Not only have they largely kept Huawei out of their own countries, they have convinced other countries like Japan, India and Germany to go along, too. Whoever controls the 5G networks will control the world — or at least large parts of it. Yet Huawei is far from finished. The company has grown into a global brand over the past two decades because, as a “national champion,” it is constantly being fed and nourished by the party and the military with low-interest-rate loans, privileged access to a protected domestic market, and other preferential treatment. These various state subsidies continue, giving Huawei a huge and unfair advantage over its free market competitors. Huawei stands in the same relationship to the Chinese Communist Party as German steelmaker Alfried Krupp did to Germany’s National Socialists in the days leading up to WWII. Just as Germany’s leading supplier of armaments basically became an arm of the Nazi machine after war broke out, so is China’s leading hi-tech company an essential element of the party’s cold war plan to dominate the world of the future. As far as “Princess” Meng is concerned, I expect that she will be found guilty of committing bank fraud, ordered to pay a fine, and then released. Even a billion dollar fine would be chump change for a seventy-five-billion-dollar corporation like Huawei. The real payoff of her arrest lies elsewhere. It has exposed the massive campaign of espionage that Huawei is carrying out around the world at the behest of the Party. It has revealed how that Party dreams of a new world order in which China, not America, is dominant. The two Chinese characters that make up Huawei’s name literally mean, “To Serve China.” That’s clear enough, isn’t it?

Agreed..  Thanks to Steven W. Mosher for that eye-opening piece.  Steven is the President of the Population Research Institute and the author of “Bully of Asia: Why China’s Dream is the New Threat to World Order.”

Michigan women accused of stealing at Target during ‘Shop with a Cop’ event

Criminal masterminds they are not. Two Michigan women have been accused of stealing from a Target store that was filled with police at the time for a “Shop with a Cop” event. Keiana Wilson, 40, of Burton, Mich. and Dana Johnson, 18, of Flint, Mich., were arrested on “felony retail fraud charges,” WXYZ reported. On Wednesday, the Bloomfield Township Police Department along with Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor and Orchard Lake police departments hosted a “Shop with a Cop” event at a Target in Bloomfield Township. Some 15 officers were at the store helping disadvantaged children choose a gift for their family members when the two women were seen by the store’s security officers loading a cart filled with $1,900 worth of electronics, the Detroit Free Press reported. The women allegedly walked out of the store with the cart without paying but did not make it too far. “The loss prevention (officers) actually apprehended them, then they asked for police assistance,” Sylvan Lake Police Sgt. Michael Mondeau said. “The police officers were only about 20 feet away when they tried to walk out of the store.” Bloomfield Township Police Sgt. Dan Brown said the women were aware the officers were at the store at the time because Johnson complimented an officer on their generosity. The Keego Harbor Police Department posted about the event on Facebook and mentioned the women accused of stealing in a tongue-in-cheek reference. “On a side note, there must have been a special episode of ‘Dumb Criminal Minds’ being filmed live as a person tried to shoplift a bunch of electronics right in front of about 10 cops,” the Facebook post read. “They didn’t get far. DON’T TAKE WHAT IS NOT YOURS, it’s a simple rule that everyone should abide by and the world would be a better place.” The two women were arraigned and bond was set at $250,000 for Johnson and $20,000 for Wilson.

You really can’t make this stuff up, folks…
