A Texas state trooper was wounded on the Texas-Mexico border when a bullet apparently strayed from a gunbattle on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. Lt. Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the trooper suffered a leg wound. The state trooper was hit about 1 p.m. Friday while on foot patrol with the Border Patrol agent in Fronton, on the border about 105 miles upstream from Brownsville. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement says the federal agent also was hit but was protected by body armor. The trooper, whose identity hasn’t been released, was in stable condition at a McAllen hospital. Hernandez says it’s unclear who was involved in the gunfight.
Who cares? The very fact that someone on OUR side of the border was hit by gunfire from the Mexican side of the border is yet another reason why it is absolutely critical that we BUILD THE WALL NOW!!!…and put U.S. Army National Guard troops physically ON the border with Mexico until that wall/fence is finally built above, and below ground (to prevent tunneling)…however long it takes. Of course, a wall would do more to prevent a stray bullet from Mexico to the U.S. side.. But, given geography considerations, fences in some places may be necessary. That would be fort he U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to determine.
